Look closer

f1

It's funny that before my cancer diagnosis I really wasn't interested in photography. Sure I took some photos, but they were quick snapshots, proof that I had been somewhere, or documenting my children growing. After going through chemo, my eyes opened to the world around me and I became interested in trying to capture my view, with the hopes of waking others up.  Too many of us walk through our days unseeing.

I have grown fond of my macro lens, never knowing what details I'll find in some of the simplest things.  I didn't see the spider on the bud when I began to snap some photos of the emerging flower in a gentle rain. Only after lining up a few shots did I discover the 1/4 spider lapping up the rain droplets.

  1. I didn't start really looking around until I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis...it made me really appreciate getting my mobility back when I lost it for a while and I do try to appreciate even the small things....Michelle

  5. Going through a particularly trying health problem also made me take a closer look at life. I came to the conclusion life is composed off love and stuff. It's great that you are able to experience more of the love for life :)

  7. Isn´t it like that in life? We notice something nice from a far, but once we get up close we see everything much
clearer and sometimes discover that all is not as it seems.
    Beautiful pic!

  8. Beautiful picture! I would love a macro lens...are they super expensive?
It's funny how life has a way of throwing us (for good or for bad) and changing the way we see things.

  9. Just keep on adding butterflies. And see my Wordless Wednesday post for this week - I, too, caught a spider without knowing it.

  10. You've got me playing a little game now. When I see the title of your post, I always find myself trying to guess what the photo will be as my slow dial-up loads. The colors in this one are just amazing, and the spider is cool, but I love the sparkling little water droplet!

  15. Lisa, I heard those words 22 years ago and am a survivor with great appreciation to God. I too have gotten into macro shots and just now it seems my eyes are open to so many things that were unseen or unnoticed before.
I think your 5 yr project will be a 22 yr project.
    My best to you.

  17. blogging got me looking closer at things.
I don't have a great lens for close ups. I'll just enjoy yours.
Thats about as close as I want to get to the spider, by the way.
