I have never seen a green heron...we have blue herons....I just love his color! Wonderful close ups...you really captured the personality of this guy! Awesome!
I'm with Janis - I tend to think of herons as great big birds. This chap (chapess) is lovely. I love his muted colours and the photos with reflections are beautiful.
Lovely pictures ! My absolute favorite is nr 4 there you see the bird reflecting in the water. Don´t believe we have these birds in Sweden ? I have never seen one , that I know for sure :)
Last summer a great blue heron was fishing the pond when two green herons flew in, landed in a tree and started what sounded like barking. The great blue responded and I think it was an argument until the blue got tired and left. I love these little guys and your photos show how beautifully colored they are, yet blend in so well......Michelle
We have been studying the birds at my house; a short move just a few minutes away from our old house yielded us entirely new birds! We still see house finches (though only a few; before we saw mostly house finches in our yard). The day we moved in we had a roadrunner in our yard! He has never come back, though we did have a burrowing owl who liked to hang out in our garden in the early evenings. There are some I can't find in my bird book at all, including what appears to be an oriole, and a brown bird very similar to the one you photographed here.
Amazing! We have two that nest in the woods right next to ouru house, even though the swamp is 1/4 mile down the road. I love the sound they make. And I love your photos!
What a cute little bird...when you say Heron...I think of the big ones right a way. Love the two bottom photos with the reflections!

ReplyDeleteStunning photos! Someday I'll be able to capture one of these critters. They are across the road and I've seen them but never with the camera.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous bird - and what gorgeous photos, too! Love the one where he's sitting almost horizontally in a most un-heronlike pose!
ReplyDeletethese are AMAZING!!
ReplyDeleteWe don't have herons here. He is really amazing!
ReplyDeleteDo you know what the other bird is?

ReplyDeleteHow big is it? Eastern Phoebe perhaps?
ReplyDelete(My other thought, if its like about 5 1/2 inches it could be a least flycatcher.??)
ReplyDeleteI'm always guessing wrong.
Love the last shots with the reflection. That is an intense looking bird!
