I've been to Ripon, Wisconsin several times before, but just now noticed this little historical spot. Who knew that Ripon's claim to fame was being the birthplace of the Republican Party?
I snapped these photos with my cell phone, and I remember to not touch them in any way, except to resize for here. :0)

Isn't it funny that we can drive by the spot day after day and never realize exactly what that historical sign says? I need to take the time to STOP and READ the signs!
ReplyDeleteThanks for pointing this out to me Lisa!!
An interesting collection of photos! I especially love the 3rd photo of the cute white building! It almost looks like a village chapel!
ReplyDeleteLisa,
ReplyDeleteSo interesting!! I've been there before, too (Ripon), and new knew this. Hmmm....and here I thought they were famous for cookies...
The whole "birthplace" thing just conjures up odd images for me!
ReplyDeleteI didn't even know there was a birthplace to the Repulican party...how interesting...thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWow very interesting facts...never knew any of it. Thanks for sharing such great photos and info.
ReplyDeleteHa, I'm going to show this to Bob, he's the Republican. We have one of those mixed marriages.
ReplyDeleteVery informative entry. Now I would tell everybody that there is a birthplace of Republican party. And I am Republican too haha. Happy Sunday!

How interesting that it started as a reaction to slavery! I didn't know that.
ReplyDeleteHa! I grew up very close to there! Ripon is famous for Rippin' Good Cookies (be sure to tour the plant and get free cookies!), and the place you photographed.
ReplyDeleteIt's always good to get a little history lesson ... I feel smarter already!
