Macro Monday Whatnots

IMG_3226

Just a few odds and ends found on a beach near Jacksonville. The morning lighting seemed to be perfect to bring out the colors. Ahhhh.

I found these in a couple of spots but have no clue what made the little sand balls.

I think the sand in the shell looks like snow, but it wasn't, lol.

Southern Cemeteries

DSCF0123

Of course we stopped in a few cemeteries along our route. This one was a very interesting place, the only one on Tybee Island, Georgia.

DSCF0124

I was inthralled with the palms as much as the cemetery, lol. I just love these huge trees!

DSCF0125

Such cool "bark"!

DSCF0127

See, the palm was in the cemetery, lol.

DSCF0128

A very interesting place, with an interesting history.

Another small cemetery we explored featured this indian.

And a few Confederate Soldiers.

I found all these numbered markers together intriguing - cremated remains?

DSCF0176

Some very busy ants!

The third cemetery I'm sharing is in Florida, near Jacksonville, but it had so much Spanish Moss that I felt like I was still in Georgia. Isn't this trunk cool?!

See what I mean?

Such beautiful places, full of history.

An Egret eating breakfast

Thanx to Kayleen for helping to identify this fellow as a Reddish Egret!

IMG_3179

I saw a plethora of birds on our trip to Florida - many I had never seen before and most very accommodating. But this fellow was the first in the parade of birds so I thought he deserved a post of his own. He strutted down the beach and let me snap away - it was early morning, light not the best, kind of cloudy. I believe he's a type of Heron, but not sure which kind?

Pelicans flew over as we left this beach. I did see more of them, and closer, but we'll get to them eventually. I hope you like birds, I have a buttload of them to share, lol.

America's Smallest Post Office

DSCF0262

I'm managing to get the whole Mac thing figured out and I love my MacBook! I'm feverishly working on the photos, and am anxious to share them all - find myself bouncing around, but I don't figure it really matters if I show things in any certain order. . .

DSCF0260

So here we have the Ochopee Post Office, aka the smallest post office in the United States. We stumbled upon it while zipping to Big Cypress National Preserve, in Florida.  As you can see, it's still in use!  Even if the guy has to stand outside of the door to use the building - it's even smaller than the smallest church, lol.

Smallest Church (Geocaching in Georgia)

DSCF0162

When I think of Georgia this is what I think of, Spanish Moss, and I wasn't disappointed - it was everywhere!

DSCF0160

Even on the cross atop America's smallest church!

DSCF0144

Isn't it cute?! It measures approximately 10x20 and seats 12. (And yes, geocachers, there's a cache there)

DSCF0153

As I opened the door the lights magically came on, when I shut the door the lights went off, so I had to leave the door ajar to see anything. At the head of the church, people have left mementos/prayers - the church is open 24/7.

DSCF0146

Each side of the church features beautiful glass and. . .

DSCF0155

. . .behind the alter is this glorious stained glass.

DSCF0157

I sat the little camera on the pulpit trying to get the inside, it didn't like the low light, oh well, you get the idea.

DSCF0143

Nearby, I had to snap a quick pix of downtown Savannah as we passed through - so pretty!

Happy Birthday Twister!

My sweet grandson turns 3 years old today and all I can wonder is where these years have gone! They are flying by too fast! I just want to hold onto every precious moment!

Crabby Macro Monday

m05

This little fellow is just adorable!

m03

He thinks he's so tough!

m02

I think he needs to shave his legs, lol.

m01

So maybe these are more technically close-ups, but that's ok, right? Did you see the size of that sand?! Yeah, he's little!

m04

I found his little eyes amazing!!
