Rough-legged Hawk

IMG_6273

We see hawks quite often, but this time we were able to pause and I could snap a few shots. Dennis drove slowly by him as I shot out the window just praying for something to come out.

He kept his eyes on me but I was sad the branches were in the way.

However, we have learned, do not stop. If you stop the car to shoot the shots. . .

  1. great shots and as for being through the carwindow they are marvellous! You captured it so well. The one when he flies away is my favourite so I'm glad you stopped the car :-)

  2. Even with the branches in the way, these are awesome shots. Hubby always stops the car for me to take pictures, and they always fly away. I'll try the slow drive by next time.

  3. Never mind the branches, these are great shots. I take a lot of photos from my car and know to ease very gently to a stop so as not to startle critters.

  4. I'm dying to get some shots of one of the red-tailed hawks, but unsuccessful so far. These are beautiful!!

Do you visit Johnny Nutcase? She's quite the nature photographer. http://nutcase007.blogspot.com/

  5. Excellent shots. I love the last one where he takes off, you were still able to capture it so crisply. I love seeing the hawks and eagles when I drive around. They are such magnificent creatures. What kind of lens were you using?

  6. we have a lot of these birds around here too. They sit on the power poles along the highway for some reason.

  9. These are great. I held my breath as I took in each one. We had a similar experience with deer today. Just another reason to keep the car windows clean!
