Smiling Butterfly

071310

A butterfly came to my flowers today and fed sporadically all day. He was a joy to watch. When he posed for some photos I was happy to find he was smiling. It made me smile too.

I've been doing this for 43 days now, only 11 of those photos are taken outside of my yard. I've been fortunate to find so much right here at home. I worry about what I will do through the long winter but am sure I can make it through. I had been hoping for a butterfly for a couple of weeks now and finally one came to me.  Sometimes it's easier for me to sit and write a couple of these posts at the same time, although the photos are taken each day, I just get lazy about hooking the camera up to the computer, lol.  And we've been very busy in the evenings so it seems currently morning is being an easier time for me to post.

  1. Lisa, this is a Red Admiral...they come to visit us, too and I recently researched about them, sharing it all in a blog post. They are absolutely wonderful friends....will land right in your hands in the right setting. Ours are naturally drawn to our oval shaped swimming pool full of water, so each evening, a few come out and fly around - landing on our heads, in our hands and towels...I have SO many pictures of them but you definitely have a much better camera than I do :)

You are blessed with beauty in your yard, aren't you?! Gorgeous photos, you share. You know that I'm always inspired by your posts.

  2. I think it's wonderful you are able to get so many wonderful shots right in your own territory. I used to be gallivanting all over the state every chance I got because my employer published a weekly planner with my photographs every year, and I had to fill it! The economy took a nose dive, the calendar went up in smoke, we bought a foreclosure, we can't travel endlessly like we used to, and I am finding I can do a lot of great shots right in my own neighborhood! It's really nice to be home, and have joy there to boot!

  4. Lisa, your photos are amazing. Makes me long for a macro lens! I am working on a Gallery Q exhibit opening Aug 13 and would love to meet you if you care to come! I have a piece of pottery that will be the inspiration for a series of artisan jewelry that features a butterfly so last night I was getting my wings on! Thanks for sharing such a beatiful inspiration. Enjoy the day!
