Mississippi River Birds

lc3113

Remember a few weeks ago we went looking for tundra swans?  It was amazing to be able to camp comfortably in November along the Mississippi River in Wisconsin.  We broke camp early and started our search.

We found this large mass of ducks, geese, pelicans and swans - the swans are there, you just have to look hard.

I enjoyed watching them all, just wish I could have gotten closer, but we looked, there was no way to get closer.

  1. There used to be a couple of swans here in the bay & then the DNR killed them saying they were invasive due to them wiping out the game fish population... thus killing tourism.

I'd rather see two swans over sport fishermen and their $300,000 boats littering the bay.

  5. I've never seen a pelican in real life, so it's a treat to see so many in a photo you've taken. I didn't know they thrive so far to the north!

You must be snowed in by now, in Wisconsin. I wish you warmth and warm feelings and a Merry Christmas!

  6. Wow ... I don't think I've ever seen so MANY pelicans all together like this and, of course, I'm much more used to seeing BROWN ones rather than white. Thanks for sharing your marvelous photos ;-)
    Hugs and blessings,

  16. The pelicans and seagulls on the MS river further south from you just astound me. I mean, what are they doing there? The seagulls also tend to conglomerate when it's been rainy in the spring and the fields have puddles of water. It's just in the last couple of years. weird.
