I'm a tree climber

lc2606

When we photographed the Angel on My Shoulder Teen Camp a couple of weeks ago I jumped on the opportunity to climb a tree, get clamped to a zipline and zoom over everyone's heads.   Dennis held both cameras and documented the event.  Look how high up I am!

I was scared, but I tried to not think about the fear.  I simply thought about "hand, hand, foot, foot. . .hand, hand, foot, foot. . ."  Midway up I stopped momentarily to look around and the fear of heights started setting so I turned quickly back the tree and thought, "hand, hand, foot, foot. . ."

I was 100% secure, if I had fallen the rope would have caught me.  But I'm pretty proud of the fact that I scurried up that tree (in Crocs!) faster than anyone else.  It took me, literally, less than 1 minute!

The hardest part of the climb was getting over the wood supports for the platform and getting my rear up on the platform.  The lady at the top helped pull me up by my "handle".  Then she secured me to the tree while we waited for the line.  When we got the line, she attached it to me and I was ready to go.

While setting up there the fear struck again - see my Crocs? - and I told myself to breath, reminded myself I was safe and I was already at the top - the quickest way down was to slide.  I asked the lady if I could hold onto the rope and she said yes. . .

So, I fell forward and off I zipped!  Woo-hoo!

It may not be bungee-jumping but I stepped out and did something different.  When's the last time you stepped out, overcame your fear and plunged ahead?

  2. Very awesome Lisa! Way to tackle your fears and go forward! This spring, my family and I went zip lining in the forests of Honduras - an experience we'll all remember for some time to come. It's so cool to be zipping through the trees!

  11. Even though I saw you zip-lining on Facebook - that first picture really gives you the impression of just how tall up you were. Brave woman!

  14. Oh boy, that looks awesome. I turned to be such a chicken of heights myself, but this is better than bungee jumping. I would do this if I had the moral support like you have.

  16. Wow, you are so brave! I don't know whether I'd be able to sit on that platform without freaking out. Then again, as you say, the quickest way down is the zipline.

  17. Oh, you a wonderfully spirited woman. Good on ya for giving that a go. I would have held a camera for Dennis! Nothing would have gotten me up there. You have spunk.

  18. I have the same Crocs!! And hats off to you for challenging yourself! I'm not sure when the last time I really challenged myself to do something I was scared of ... probably when I became a mom!

  20. AWESOME~ I'm so proud of you for trying something new. I would love to try this someday. Last year was when I tried something new. I was at Lockegee (Morehead KY) taking pictures when I met these great people who were rappelling. I asked if I could give it a try and they said I could. I was a bit nervous at first but it was the most delightful time I've ever had in my life. I will never forget the experience. Hope all is well.
