A carpet of color

As we drove away from our white water rafting, we noticed a hill covered in flowers and since there was also a dirt road up leading up the hill we went closer for a peek.

This stop was not planned, it was purely spur of the moment.  Do you allow yourself to get distracted like that?

A sea of flowers holding hands making a colorful carpet.

A blanket of comfort!

Have you ever seen a cemetery literally covered in flowers?  We had not.  I would love to have a final resting place like this one.  Unexpected beauty on a hill amongst miles of green.

lc2425

So magical and peaceful!

lc2423

The flowers stuck out their tongues as I caressed them into poses.

Even that little patch of green you see, if you stepped closer you would find flowers beneath the tall grasses.

(Looking down towards the main the road.)

There were also lilacs and azalea.  It's truly like God smiled on the place.

Wild phlox?  So tiny, so delicate, yet so many the air was filled with fragrance.

This fabulous place of solitude commanded our attention and we’re so glad we stopped for a closer look.

  19. Amazing, one of my favorite posts ever from you! I've never seen anything like it, it's quite serene. I would love to rest in a place like this. Plots these days are so controlled and flowers removed every week or so. I love these photos and the thought of the beautiful coverage makes them even more wonderful.

I do not want to die now, but it would like being able to choose a cemetery like that one for my final rest.

  30. Oh MY GOSH - this is SO beautiful! I wanna be buried there! What an absolutely wonderful place. I'm so glad you spotted it and photographed it.
No, I never used to allow myself to get distracted, until I really became passionate about photography. I used to get so aggravated when my husband would want to just drive around... now, I beg him to take me just driving around. Strange how things change. I guess it's because when we lived in Ohio, it was getting so built up, there weren't many 'back roads' less traveled... but here, in Missouri, there are gravel roads all around me and I just love it.
