Indian Pipe
Indian Pipe is one of those flowers that I longed to see in nature. Last year I finally saw some, but it was past it's prime. This year, I have been looking frequently in the same location and happened to spot it coming up. When it first emerges it's just a little white arch in the ground, then the next day the bloom was up a little more and each day the stem and bloom got higher. It has some droplets on it as it's emerging. To me, it's an amazing flower, one without color, and one that only grows where decaying leaves, trees and fungus are. It finds life in death.

My dad just pointed this out to me on one of our walks when I was back visiting Ohio two weeks ago! It is SO cool!!! Dad told me that it's not 'technically' a flower; He said it's actually a fungus, and that's why there's not color. It's really, really neat!
ReplyDeleteYes, it is really beautiful, but also somewhat creepy at the same time...

ReplyDeleteNot a flower I'm familiar with, but I like its attitude!
ReplyDeleteI've only seen Indian pipe once in my life. It was just one tiny flower all by its lonesome. It was such a strange flower, of course I had to look it up! How cool that you found some and such a nice clump of it.
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool, I am learning so many names of plants lately. Remembering them is another thing! LOL
ReplyDeleteHow moving! Life from lifelessness. I like that. I think I'm going to have to explore a little more closely and see if I can find some of this stuff!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if I've seen it and never realized it. Thanks for giving the link, I was about to google it!
