Not sure what kind of flower this is, the guys found it while hiking near sandy Beach in Acadia National Park.
I explored the water’s edge while waiting for them. Snails, weird water bugs, starfish, and all sorts of nearly hidden creatures.
When we found this little fellow we did not know what it was either.
But we found out later, while on the lobster boat, that it’s a Toad Crab.
He must have been a baby. Such a tiny guy!
So unusual looking!
Lovely close up photos. That crab looks huge till it is picked up!
ReplyDeleteWhat interesting things you find along the beach!
ReplyDeleteAnd you say you don't like to swim? How can that be.
ReplyDeleteYou guys find the most unusual thing.
ReplyDeleteLove that tiny crab :D!
Wow...a toad crab. how cool to get to see some unusual wildlife like that!
ReplyDeleteI know Acadia is beautiful, and can't wait to get there one day! You are fortunate to have been there!
ReplyDeleteInteresting find and photos!
What a tiny little fellow!!
ReplyDeleteWe found all kinds of neat creatures too. Although, I do have to admit I did not pick up any of them ;0)
ReplyDeleteThat flower is very unusual and very pretty! Ewwww on the weird water bugs, hope they don't show up on my beach! The little crab sure is cute :-)
ReplyDeleteThat toad crab is so cute! I've never seen one before.
ReplyDeleteHow fun for your son to experience the tide pool. I have fond memories of our trips to the tide pool. You never knew what you would find. Nice photos:)
ReplyDeleteI have very fond memories of walking along the beaches of Cape Code during low tide...just to see what we could find! I was thinking the same thing....the crab looks absolutely HUGE until your son picked it up! Great pics!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like it had great camo!
ReplyDeleteThe diversity on this planet is just amazing.
ReplyDeleteMy boys would love him, but this is an example of why I don't like to go in the water.
ReplyDeleteUntil picked up I thought that the 'little guy' was HUGE. LOL~ That flower is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteFirst time I've heard of a Toad Crab... but the name fits. How big do they get? Or did the tour guide say?
ReplyDeleteYour flower looks like it is a member of the native anemone family. If you stop at the national park headquarters or visitors center, they will have books on the native plants found on the island, and/or in the state of Maine. They will also have other nature books too, on birds, sealife, etc.
ReplyDeleteMy trip to Maine many years ago, remains one of my fondest memories, and I'd love to go back someday. I'm SO happy that you are having such a wonderful time!
Toad crab? His mother thinks he's cute.... What a great walk along a great beach.
ReplyDeleteThe flower looks like a Dogwood!!! It is a beautiful photograph!!!!
