Craters of the Moon National Monument

It was our first visit to the "moon" and I loved the look of the lichen (?) growing like spots among the dark rock.

We walked up, up, up in the wind and wow what a view!

I stopped part way up and turned around. Wow!

On the top of Inferno Cone.

Yellowstone

IMG_1944

This deer thought it was hidden, yet there were several of us pointing cameras at it, lol.

I'm so taken aback with thermals, a terrifying concept, yet intriguing too!

How deep does that hole go? Why is white around the edges? So many questions; so much to see!

Amazing that flowers can grow in this environment!

Not sure what these bubbles are about. I wanted to poke them but was afraid the thermal would melt my finger off, lol.

Pika! Pika-choo!!!

IMG_1626

I'm in love with a rodent - shhh, don't tell!

IMG_1623

Pikas are also known as Rock Rabbits, Coneys, and Whistling Hares. They love rock slides and from what some other hikers told us they're rare.

It was so cute watching him build his nest!

What a hike!

DSCF1864

We decided to go on a short hike, we wanted to see. . .you guessed it, more waterfalls, lol. We hiked up, up, up! (On the trek back down we saw a couple of Pikas in this area, I'll be sharing them in a couple of days.)

DSCF1877

I was amazed at how much smaller the other mountains looked, as I went up a peak.  It felt like I was in the clouds, refreshing!

DSCF1881

I swear our path was cut by goats, lol.

While Dennis kept climbing a narrowing path toward the upper falls I stayed right here by the lower part and enjoyed the view.

the Bridge sooc #27

DSCF1840

The Going to the Sun Road has spots you can pull over, shed the car and walk some paths. There was barely light left but off we went.

DSCF1838

I just love waterfalls! Shortly after passing under the road we came upon this one.

DSCF1841

A little further down the path we came up this bridge - scary! I'm not fond of bridges.

DSCF1842

And another waterfall! We had it all to ourselves, having passed many people leaving the area before darkness, lol. We were trying to cram as much as we could in before night because the forecast was continual rain for the next day.

DSCF1845

I did pause on the bridge for a shot, only shaking a little.

Waterfalls

IMG_1536

Peeking at one of the Glaciers in the park.

IMG_1550

The water was so clear! I thought the circle made by the rushing water was pretty cool.

IMG_1551

Amazing how water can be powerful enough to eat rock, even if only bit by bit.

IMG_1552

I loved how the falls made little steps, so pretty!

IMG_1561

It seemed there were waterfalls all over the park.
