Macro Monday Sand Dollar

IMG_5489

This tiny sand dollar survived a trip from Maine last year and has managed to survive being tossed from place to place awaiting its moment to shine. I'm really bad about actually taking photos of objects that are in my possession. My son has learned not to eat a heart shaped doughnut (or walmart cupcake) that has been sitting around for a while - it may take me a year to finally get to it. lol

So this little sand dollar has been very tolerant of my procrastination. Now that I've recorded it it will probably crumble. It's less than the size of a quarter - very small!

I'm amazed that the dust from its journeys shows up!

Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore

lc2757

We finally made it to the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore on our way back from Maine.  We've been talking about going for years, just never taken the time to stop when we get near.  This time we did stop at the headquarters to get our passport stamp, then went to Mt Baldy.

lc2751

Immediately upon starting up the path we found a lizard.

lc2750

Haden helped him pose for the camera.  He does have a way with creatures.  The little guy reminds me of a wiggling, growling dog.

lc2752

I just thought the shadows on the uneven sand was cool.

lc2755

Dennis hand to dip his toes in the cool water, hope a wave doesn't slap the camera.

lc2753

A lighthouse in the distance.  If the day had been clearer we would have been able to see Chicago, but alas, it was not to be.

lc2754

So cool and refreshing on a hot day!

Seagulls scavenge anywhere, even in the trashcans.

Weeping Mother

lc2660

I'm sure you've noticed that I'm not too into black and white, but I couldn't resist changing a couple of these.

lc2661

The day was so bright and her shades of green so varied I think the b&w shows the features better.

lc2662

To the mothers of the nation. . .

lc2663

She moved me to tears, I thought of all the mothers praying for the safety of their children, our soldiers.

Going underground

lc2656

One of the most exciting things, to me, while traveling through Pennsylvania, is going through the tunnels. Yeah, I know I need to get a life. Lol

lc2657

There’s another one! (Right before we entered this one a semi had a blow out - very loud! - scared the be-jeebers out of us!)

lc2658

Here we go again!

lc2659
Weeeeeeee!

Hey, I know these aren't the best - you try focusing while going 60-70mph!

Whirlwind tour of Valley Forge

lc2635

After touring downtown Philly we stopped at Valley Forge. We didn’t have time to walk the place, although it looks like fun to do, but we did take the time to drive it and stop at a few sights.

lc2628

Some of the old soldier’s quarters.

lc2629

Sometimes I think it would be nice to go back to simpler times and log homes, but I think I would miss my internet and cell phone.

lc2630

So much to see! So much history!

lc2636

The handles I shared yesterday are on some doors here.

lc2631

Memorials everywhere.

lc2632

The backside of things.

lc2633

And one of the rows of cannons.

Getting a handle on Macro Monday

lc2627
Open

lc2626
Close

lc2625

Wouldn’t you just love to have one of these on every door in your house?! Imagine how costly that would be! Is the devil in the details - even in a church?
