Twister

IMG_9757

I love how when I call Tristan, Twister, he tells me, "me nah twisser" - Yeah, right, lol. I love his beautiful brown eyes! He doesn't share them with the camera very often though.

IMG_9736

And often when he does, this is the scared-caught-in-the-headlights look I get.

IMG_9734

This is as close as I've gotten to capturing his look when he's told no. He gets this scrunchy face, only when told no, it is really hilarious and hard not to laugh at.  Each time I tried to catch it, he either turned away or stopped doing it.  But he will scrunch the left eye totally closed and that part of his mouth goes way up and his nose gets crinkly.  He's too adorable!

Cedar Waxwing couple

IMG_9825

The Cedar Waxwings have been unusually cooperative. I really enjoyed watching this pair bounce around eating berries.

IMG_9827

The one closest to us would pick a berry, hop over on the branch and give it to the other one.

The rest sat far above while these two had their intimate dinner.

I'm assuming they were a pair as they never got far from each other.

Technology

IMG_0622

I'm so thankful for technology, specifically cell phones, they kept me in touch with my teenagers and now they entertain the grandchildren. We found a cool app for toddlers that both the babies love. Addy decided to see if anyone was on the line though. You can see brother's hand reaching out, wanting the phone too.

So, we handed Tristan my phone, with the same app, but it wasn't long before Adrianna had both phones - just look at that joy!

Being Silly

DSCF0421

I'm really trying to finish off my Florida trip photos, lol. While we walked around downtown Key West waiting to see if our parasailing trip would go (it didn't) I pointed my little point and shoot at practically everything.

DSCF0414

Think I could swim to Havana? I don't think so, but that seems really close.

DSCF0404

Mile 0 - very cool!

DSCF0408

I was intrigued by sculptures around one of the buildings. These dancers are huge!

DSCF0412

Loved the photographer! I stood in front of him and pointed my camera in the line his would be and here's what he's snapping. . .

This painter was busy painting naked ladies.

My guys had to be a part of the painting. (The guy in the middle is part of the sculpture) Haden on the left, Dennis on the right.

The guys got me to pose too, lol.

My Egyptian Queen

IMG_9409

Haden placed a beetle on Fibi's head and anointed her an Egyptian Queen, lol, messy face and all. She loves spending time outside in the summer so much that it's really impossible to keep her clean.

Driving 70mph

IMG_7917

My husband was flying down the highway when I had to grab my camera. The crop duster flew directly above us at one point, lol.

IMG_7923

It looks like a roller coaster of a ride, but fun!

IMG_7940

90 degree turns, almost touching trees.

It has to be amazing fun!

Pixel and friends

IMG_9527

April of 2009 I had a contest to name our resident flying squirrel and she ended up with the name Pixel. She's a darling, you can see photos of her on that post.  Well Pixel and her babies have been very busy.  Here we are a little over a year later and every night I feed my fliers and I have a count of at least 6 coming to visit.

IMG_9508

You can set your clock by them. They come at 9:15 every night, it's so fun watching them fly in! I was surprised when we had a cook out that lasted until about 11pm and they still came. People were able to get within a few feet of them and watch them.

IMG_9521

While my parents visited we sat out every night to watch them. Over time we have worked up to being able to use a flash on them. We replaced our yellow bug bulb with a white one. Later we brought out a big shop light, like a flood light and still they came. And now we can put the flash on the camera and freeze them in action.

IMG_9274

Now that we've got a few decent shots I'm back to just feeding and watching them. Every night I feed them seeds and some sort of fruit. I've found that they do not like cantaloupe. lol  They are the busiest in the yard right at dusk, but they are still here throughout the night.  I've been out as late as 1am and seen/heard them.  Come on over, they're more fun to watch than tv.

Florida Keys

PS/Update - I do realize the horizons are not straight, and I know I could fix them, I could have taken them straight to begin with, but we were on bridges and that's how they looked to me and I like them that way, lol

IMG_4791

I have so many photos from vacation that I still haven't shared. So, way back in February, after camping in the swamp for a couple of nights we headed down to the Keys. I had never seen water this color!

IMG_4793

So, while Dennis manned the wheel, I poked buttons on the camera, zipping very quickly over bridge, after bridge, until we made it to Key West.

IMG_4798

IMG_4799

I wouldn't mind living right there!

IMG_4804

The water around the islands is fairly shallow and there are no good swimming beaches, to speak of, we were told that's because of the reef. We found a few spots to peek into the water, and wade a bit.

IMG_4808

We were supposed to go out parasailing and snorkeling but the winds kept the boats docked. :(

IMG_4811

We really enjoyed our time in the Keys, but honestly wouldn't go back. It's just not really our scene, we were happier back up on beaches we could enjoy.

IMG_4814

IMG_4816

But I loved the color of the water!

IMG_4817

See, bridge after bridge after bridge, kinda scary.

Playing with Peanuts

IMG_6373

Remember the squirrel I played peek-a-boo with at mom's house?  I also tried to feed him/her and the others some peanuts.  My family watched me attempt to get a peanut in the hole.  First I tried tossing it, nope, I could hit the hole, but never made it in.  Finally, I put the peanut in a crack in a long branch and raised the branch up, after several attempts I was able to knock the peanut off the branch and onto the ledge of the hole.  I managed to get 2 peanuts in the hole, then we waited and watched.

IMG_6383

Finally, a squirrel came out and we watched the peanut disappear.
