So I'm running very behind. Long story short, Dennis hasn't been feeling well and we finally went to the doctor. You know how stubborn men can be! After EKG, X-rays and blood work the diagnosis is Atrial Dysrhythmia and we don't know much more than that. Basically, your heart has a little gizmo/pacemaker that regulates your heart rate and his is outta whack. His is speeding up and slowing down. The next test he gets to complete is wearing the holter monitor (kinda like a portable EKG) for 48-72 hours. Then who knows. Anyone have experience in this area?
No experience, but wishing you well!
ReplyDeleteLisa I'm sorry to hear Dennis isn't feeling well. I especially hate hearing it's his heart. I hope they can pin point the problem soon. I wish I knew more about these things so I could help more but... I don't. I can however offer my listening ear if you ever need to talk. I'll keep you and Dennis in my thoughts and prayers.
ReplyDeleteA-fib is the most common arrhythmia. The thing about a-fib is if it goes on for a longer then a day you run the risk of having a stroke. Since your heart isn't beating correctly, just fluttering in your chest the blood pools and you can through a clot. Rick had it off and on for years. Finally he had a ablation and for over 2 years never had it happen. It has started to happen again. It depends on what is causing it on what treatment is called for. Sometimes being on a blood thinner for the rest of your life is what is needed. That is not as bad as having a stroke. I work on the cardiac floor so if you have any questions let me know.
ReplyDeleteOh Lisa....I'm so sorry to hear that Dennis isn't feeling well. I AM glad that he listened to you and went to the Dr. about it!! My husband doesn't even HAVE a doctor!! Sounds like the commentor before me is a good source of information! I hope he is feeling much better real soon. I will keep you both in my prayers.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to Dennis, and you. Bob has A-fib, among a dozen other things!. Be sure Dennis is seeing a cardiologist, is my only advise. We really do live in a wonderful age, they can do so many things, now, that weren't possible just a few years ago.
ReplyDeleteKisses, Hugs and Love! I have heard a lot about those little devices. They seem to becoming more common. It will record everything his heart does and then send a print out to the doc and he looks over it. That's all I know.
ReplyDeleteWe will be thinking of all of you. Let me know if I can do anything.
I don't know what that is, but my wish is that , Dennis will soon be 100% ok. Take care,.
ReplyDeleteI don't have experience with the condition, but I did have to wear a heart monitor like that when I was a kid for a few days. That part wasn't bad. I hope he's feeling much better soon.
ReplyDeleteLisa, I'm sorry to hear about Dennis and what he's experience. Best to both of you as you go through what lies ahead.
ReplyDeleteI hope Dennis will be ok. I am glad you got him to a doc.
ReplyDeleteI wore one for two weeks! I don't know much about the condition, though. I just had an extra hearbeat that doesn't affect anything.
ReplyDeleteHope he is okay!
I don't really know much about it ... someone I worked with a long time ago had something like that. I think they might end up putting a little monitor in perhaps to keep it regular. But it was such a long time ago. I wish I could help you more...and best wishes on getting him better.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes from me for a speedy recovery!!
ReplyDeleteWell at least he has already agreed to see a doctor! That's a start. I'm keeping my fingers crossed he recovers soon.
ReplyDeleteNo experience with Atrial Dysrythmia. I'm hoping the best for Dennis, though.
ReplyDeleteI hope everything works out well.
ReplyDeleteI hope the best results you can have is what you will find out. Great macro shot.
ReplyDeleteYikes! I have no idea! There are lots of cardiac issues with my family but not that one specifically. I'm send up a little prayer for him right now! At least you can take comfort in the fact that if he should need a pacemaker it's a simple outpatient - or maybe a one nighter stay. It's one of those easy things these days! Times like these are when I really appreciate technology and how advanced things are!
ReplyDeleteYes, definitely see a cardiologist on this, if you aren't already. The new pacemakers are amazing in what they do, if he should need one. Thoughts to you folks as you figure this out, and get it stabilized.
ReplyDeletea friend of mine has this - meds - that is basically all you can do - meds - and live with it!
