We interrupt vacation memories to share some Wisconsin nature.
Brown Creepers don’t seem to like me much. This is only the second time I’ve ever seen one and he did not cooperate much more than the first one did!
Still, he was fun to watch hopping around on tree trunks.
As I was walking the trail later I thought I found a messed up bike tire.
Then I saw the end of the “tire” and took a step back. You may not realize it from my photos but I do not like snakes.
I really, really, really do not like snakes! But, I am more afraid of the ones I don’t see than the ones I do - if that makes sense. I do think the camera lends me some of its courage to pause and take some photos. But I still do not like snakes - deep down.
I spend a lot of time in parks, in the woods, on trails and off trails - sometimes in knee high grass. And it’s little fellows like this one that keep me having panic attacks while I walk through the weeds.
You see, my biggest fear is that I will step down on a snake, it will somehow get caught between my heel and my Crocs and as I accidentally smoosh it, it will whip back and bite me and because it is trapped between my heel and my shoe and I cannot get away from it. If Dennis gets further than a few feet from me my panic attack worsens until I am nearly hyperventilating. In fact, the deeper into the grasses I go, the more my panic heightens.
After all this time, I just thought you guys should know ~ I do not like snakes!
This snake looks really cute ! what a beautiful picture !
ReplyDeleteWow, you've really thought this phobia through! I'm not sure what I'm most afraid of, but snakes rank right up there! What kind of snake is this?
ReplyDeleteYou have really thought that snake fear out...to the tiniest detail! Great photos!
ReplyDeleteI don't mind snakes but I have the worst fear of heights! I hyperventilate when in high places like say...the second floor of the mall. I get dizzy and I feel like I am going to plummet to my death over the railing. We all have our things ;0)
ReplyDeleteEeeek! I hope those were taken with a really, big, long telephoto lens! Darn good thing you weren't looking for an old bike tire and swooped it up before realizing!
ReplyDeleteFrom the pictures, I would never have guessed that you don't like snakes. I don't like them, either!
ReplyDeleteOMG!
ReplyDeleteThe snake is beautiful, but scary to!
I hate snakes, really.
Do you have, ehm, snakes that kan kill you where you live?
Hello Lisa~ I love your pictures. The Brown Creeper is beautiful but it's that snake I have to talk about. I hate snakes too. But, for some reason I'm drawn to take their picture when their close by. I keep a safe distance however. Fortunately I've only seen smaller ones. If I have to cross through some weeds I get nervous too. I usually wear shorts because of the heat these days but I do have on some good hiking shoes. Hope all is well. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteI love snakes, they eat bugs and critters!
ReplyDeleteMy gr. 8 teacher had a 5' boa constrictor and I enjoyed holding it. Smooth skin, very cautious and careful. It was fascinating. Wear big boots, keep those photos coming!
Wonderful shots, I love snakes. The brown creeper, pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteThat creeper just wants to be tree bark when he grows up!
ReplyDeleteYou don't like snakes? You make this guy look like a reasonable citizen. wow.
That snake shot is really neat...I don't like them either. I am thankful I live where there are really only garter snakes in the yard. They aren't too scary. The brown creeper is more my speed, I'll take him anyday.
ReplyDeleteYou are SOOOO lucky with snakes, gimme some of that snake karma, woman! I've only found a shed skin so far this year.
ReplyDeleteanother amazing post.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots.
These are wonderful photographs of the snake.
ReplyDeleteYou may not like them, but you take good pictures of them.
ReplyDeleteYou're so silly, Lisa! Why not just wear different shoes? I'm glad you take the time to snap some pictures of those snakes even though you're afraid. I'm not really afraid of snakes, but I don't particularly care to touch them. (I have before. We used to own a ball python.) Snakes like this are fun to watch because I know they're harmless. Those round pupils are a big tip off to that. My concern around our place is the copperheads, but they don't bother me too much because I know their bite is very rarely deadly--though it is very painful. What really makes me nervous is camping in Oklahoma or Texas or somewhere I know there are coral snakes. Coral snakes scare me much more than rattlesnakes!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big snake fan either but they do make for very striking photos!
ReplyDeleteOh, the suffering one must go through to capture such great shots for the blogworld!! And, they really are great shots!
ReplyDeletewow nice finds¡ I envy ya
ReplyDeleteI also suffer from panic attacks and i can manage it by deep and slow breathing. i also practice meditation.. "
