We eagerly boarded the whale boat for our trip out to sea. The trip was supposed to last about 3 hours, but ended up being at least 4. We stood up there in the tip, the whole time, about 40 degrees on the water, going 30 knots, and 96 miles. Yeah, it was cold!
We saw lobster boats with many birds chasing them. We saw puffins, seals, boats, lighthouses and more!
It was hard to stay standing, let alone walk.
We saw fancy houses!
One of these is the Campbell Soup guy’s house, but I cannot remember which one. Martha Stewart also has a home near Bar Harbor and a custom color boat!
And for all that we did see, we did not see one whale, except this one at the landing.
Looks like you had fun except for not seeing a whale, that is. I don't know if I have the stomach for that type of boat going that fast! Beautiful homes along there though!
ReplyDeleteWe were there in October and we went one of the whale watches. We were told we didn't see many due to the late season. I did get some photos, but they were pre-digital. Wish they had been digital. Jimmy almost got sick on the way back to Bar Harbour due to the rough seas. He looked like your son, like he could be blown away.
ReplyDeleteLeedra’s Photos For Fun
Well, that last shot is pretty spectacular!! Gracie would be SO SO jealous (its her current dream to be an under water photographer specifically taking shots of whales)!!
ReplyDeleteOMG, those houses are amazing! Ridiculously huge but very cool! I was so looking forward to your whale photos, sorry you didn't see any. BTW, did you have to pay for the excursion even though you saw no whales? hahaha!
ReplyDeleteOne of my goals in life is to view the Maine coastline from the sea. Absolutely beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWhat a trip. Sounds a bit cold but you saw some amazing houses & the whale was hilarious! Well worth the discomfort!
ReplyDeleteSome pretty gorgeous views though!
ReplyDeleteOh, sad that you didn't see a whale, but at least you had fun :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I went to Nova Scotia my heart wanted to go on a whale watching boat but my head told me no. I get sea sick pretty easy. From the sounds of your adventure, I probably made the right decision...though I still WANT to!
ReplyDeleteThat's a big bummer! Maybe next time...
ReplyDeleteToo bad you didn't see any whales! I went whale watching once & found out that I do not like to sit on a boat & toss & turn waiting for a whale to show up....seasick:( We did see some whales though so it was worth it!
ReplyDeleteGREAT PHOTOS!!
No whales? That's too bad. Great pictures, though!
ReplyDeleteawww, I was expecting a photo of the whale.. next time!!! Well, a photo of a real whale..(smile) The photo of the first home is mind blowing... beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOoh, I had such anticipation of seeing a real whale at the end of this post. I'm sorry you and your family didn't get to see one during your watch. Still it looks like you guys had plenty to see. I love that first house you posted. It's beautiful. Maybe next time you'll get lucky. Hope all is well.
ReplyDeleteSorry you didnt get to see any whales, I guess its kinda like fishing you may not catch anything. looks like you had a great trip though thankyou for sharing your photos with us
ReplyDeleteDarn, not one single little whale tail even? Oh well, you got some great shots anyway :-)
ReplyDeleteWow...that house is amazing! Major bummer you didn't see any whales though.
ReplyDeleteI've returned to let you know that there's a blog award for you at Poefusion. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteSince I know I will never afford a house like that, why don't you and Dennis buy one and invite all of us blogging buddies over! LOL
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you didn't get to see one whale. Darn!
These are wonderful, Lisa. They bring back lots of memories--all wonderful. Maine is a paradise for people who aren't afraid of a little chilliness.
ReplyDeleteA bit disappointing about the whales, but those houses sort of make up for it. I love the location of the first one. How wonderful to just walk outside and down those rocks to the sea.
ReplyDeleteI always wanted to know where the Campbell Soup guy lived.
ReplyDeletewow the wind must have been stiff, you look as though you were ready to fly away! Who really needs a house that big?
