Shark Teeth Macro Monday
When we were in Florida last winter we spent some time combing the beach for shark's teeth. We had a lot of fun and found hundreds in just a few hours time.
It was fun watching them wash in and trying to catch them before they were taken back out.
A few people have wondered which beach we went to, well I happened to snap a photo of the sign so I wouldn't forget, lol.
Macro Monday is easy to play, snap a macro (or any close-up) photo, post it on your blog and come back here and sign MckLinky. :) MM started on Sept 29, 2008 - THANX to all of you for helping make it such a fun start to the week!

Snow & Sand ~ Macro Monday #121
When you think of a sandy beach you probably don't think of snow too.
But it's a common occurrence on Wisconsin beaches!

shark's teeth
I didn't understand why my husband and son were so eager to hunt for shark's teeth in the sand of a Florida beach when we vacationed there earlier this year, I carried my camera to the beach to snap photos. But the boys took a lot longer in their search than I did and eventually I ditched my socks and waded in to seek too. It was a lot more fun than I imagined, watching little triangles wash in in a wave and trying to snag them before the wave took them back out. I found more than 200 all by myself, topping both boys! :0)~ Now when I look at them I remember laughter and fun with people I love.

You might as well plan on seeing a lot more of these - now that I've finally gotten around to taking my camera to them I keep seeing more I want to snap.
This is a turkey platter with about 500 shark's teeth on it. We found all of these while in Florida way back in February.

Run Sanderling Run!
By now you've probably concluded that I am enamored with the Sanderling. We saw them at each beach we went to and I could not resist watching their antics.
They stay at the edge of the water, going towards the ocean as the water goes out . . .
. . .and, running like crazy towards shore when the water came in. Isn't he darling?!
No matter how many times I watched him do this I never tired of it. And he never got swept away by a wave, believe me, I held my breath with anticipation each time.
Btw, this beach was more broken shell (is that called shale?) than it was sand. It sure made for a beautiful color!
I guess he got full. Doesn't he look coy?

Royal Terns
I think these fellows are adorable! The little feathers tufting up on the backs of their heads makes me think of little old balding men. They just need tweed jackets. :)

Ruffled Feathers
Sanderling, at least I think that's what he is. I love his reflection in the water too.
A Laughing Gull laughing at me. lol
Yellowlegs or Willet? I'm really bad at identifying these birds.
I loved chasing bigger birds with my lens while in Florida. The challenge of Wisconsin bird is that most of the ones I see are small and they're very flighty.

But, as you can see, this gull seemed as intrigued with me as I was with him. Now I suppose he could be a juvenile Herring Gull, but due to the time of year, I'm assuming this is a Ring-Billed Gull in his winter plumage.
