Anhinga, Cormorant and a fishie

IMG_4099a

I had never seen an Anhinga before our trip to Florida. I was in awe of these birds!

But I still love the Double-Crested Cormorants too.

But I had never watched them dive, and I found it very fun to watch! They stay down for a long time!

  4. Wow - great photos as always Lisa! I loved watching the Cormorants dive in Mexico. They are fascinating; they're fishing machines! I really like the fifth from last photo - you captured wonderful detail there. I love the water on his back!

  6. Awesome series! Especially the ones with the submerged bird. That's something I'd never seen before. I didn't even know they could do that. (though it makes sense that they could).

And no, that bird's not gonna eat that Gar (the fish). Maybe the other way around, though. Gar have a nasty wicked set of teeth. And the story I heard (can't confirm or deny) their skins were used at one time to make shields for warriors of various Indian nations in the Southeast. That's pretty much all they're good for though. I hear they make really lousy eating. Truly wretched. Again, can't confirm or deny.
