The Flying Squirrel has a name

lc1581

I promised Jelly Bellies to the person who chose the name for my newest friend. We have a winner, comment 31 - Tim suggested, “I would call him Pixel” Tim doesn’t have a blog to link to, but I have emailed him.

Please meet Pixel. An appropriate name for a boy or a girl, and for a petite flying squirrel. And something simple to call him/her while (s)he hangs out with us for a while.

Last Friday, we had our hottest day so far, even broke a record for hottest at 86 degrees. Poor Pixel was very hot since the trees do not yet have leaves and the sun was beating down on the bird house.

I felt so bad that I ran the sprinkle below the house trying to help cool the air. But the heat made her stay this way for much of the day. This is how I found out that we’ll be having babies and Pixel is a girl.

I don’t how long Pixel will be with us, so lets enjoy her while we can. I look forward to seeing babies!

  10. Pixel is a girl?

The only flying squirrel(s) I ever saw were as a kid. My Grandfather had given us a "See Rock City" bird house. One of those kinds with a couple of levels and different apartments for multiple birds. I remember when my brother and I discovered that the flying squirrels had moved in we couldn't help but to take our toy bow and arrows and shoot the bottom of of the birdhouse just to see the squirrels glide a 150 feet or so to the next trees. Yeah, I know, but we were young. As you might suspect, the squirrels didn't continue to inhabit our birdhouse for very long. It's nice that Pixel has a neighbor with a camera rather than rubber-tipped arrows. But, listen, if you want to get a shot of Pixel gliding through the air- well, I know how to get it done. :)

  14. How cute! We had a baby squirrel when we first moved into this house. H/he would hop around and play all day while mom searched for food.

I can't wait to see babies.

I have been missing doing macro Monday. Macros are some of my favorite things to capture. But I have been busy on Mondays. Some time I will join you again! I love that you have the macro meme!
