Red, White and Blue

Camera Critters

I don’t expect to see Bluebirds in the winter, so imagine my surprise when I found a whole posse of them in a park in Red Wing, Minnesota.

So bright! I figured their colors would dull for the winter like Goldfinches do.

I think they look beautiful against the snow! What a fun surprise. :)

  1. Lisa, once again you capture the beautiful side of nature. And if you built this lighthouse yourself, I am more than impressed. It sure does a nice job on the items you photographed too. Will you make me one and send it Fed Ex to Memphis please?

  2. love those pictures. I had a blue bird that came every morning to my backyard and I haven't seen him since it has gotten so cold. Just the geese.

  7. Wow, his breast feathers are the same color as the wood chips. He blends right in - nature's camouflage! :) I am bluebird-deprived. I've never, ever seen one in real life. But I've seen eagles!

  8. I wonder if their color is influenced by what they are eating. They are indeed a breath of spring in winter!!

  20. I'm amazed they stayed in Minnesota for the winter! I guess they figured there's enough food there to survive till spring.

  27. I spotted a few of those guys today myself! It suddenly warmed up to near 60 today -- freakish, I know -- and I noticed a lot more animal activity around Casa Mojo than I've seen in a while.

Great captures on these. The detail is marvelous! And the colors? Well that goes with out saying.

  30. I saw two bluebirds behind our house a few weeks ago when it was cold. I just caught a glimpse out the window and wasn't sure of what I saw. Instead of grabbing the binoculars, I grabbed my camera, zoomed in, and snapped a few shots from the back door before they noticed me and flew away. I had to upload the photos and zoom in more to be sure, but they were bluebirds all right. I think they are the first bluebirds I've spotted in Kansas. We've seen them in Oklahoma, and I've seen plenty of other birds here, but I've never seen bluebirds here before. We have been here 18 years, and it isn't because I haven't looked.

  31. I so love your eye and all your captures.
I finally got a camera! Nikon D40 with the larger lens.
I hope to learn and work on new skills.
I will be keeping up with you.
    I find you so inspiring.
    Love TJ

  32. I love these. Recently, when I was visiting the East Coast, I tried to get a picture of a cardinal in a tree, but it was too far away for my lens. It just blended in with the tree.

    Yours are great.................Thanks for sharing.

  33. You NEVER cease to amaze me with your photographs ... and I'm slowly beginning to notice more 'critters' in my surroundings too. I love these 4 photos ... the birds and the berries are beautiful against the snow.
    Hugs and blessings,
