Frozen

PhotoStory Friday
Hosted by Cecily and MamaGeek

Out with the old and in with the new. A new year always makes me feel like spring cleaning. It's a perfect opportunity to pitch out the bad or blah, make changes, add in some more good, etc. So while I don't do New Year's Resolutions I do see a new year as a good spot in time to make some changes or set some goals and such.

I feel like I've been stuck in a rut and I'm hoping I can jump on out of it now that the holidays are over. I think I've just been too caught up in all the things going on over the last few weeks to really be inspired. I have plenty of thoughts flutter through my head daily that I intend to get written down but instead they flit about like a flurry of birds and I cannot seem to cage one.

I haven't taken many photos lately. I'm just uninspired, hope to get out of that funk soon. I'm not depressed, I wouldn't even call it the blahs, I'm just not filled with tingly excitement, or maybe I am and it's just temporarily frozen and unfeelable (ok, I might have made that word up, but you get it, no?). This Saturday we'll be up in St Germain photographing the Polar Plunge for Angel on My Shoulder and I'm hoping to regain my trigger finger.

You might think that today my photos and my words really have nothing to do with each other. But in a way they do, because on the days I took those photos I was feeling the tingle of inspiration, and the sun was shining and my finger did not tremble with the fear of getting frostbite.

  3. Good analogy - flitting birds with your thoughts and feelings. No doubt winter is getting to you...it's only December??!!??

  11. ((Hugs)) to you Lisa. It's hard sometimes with the holidays and changes in the weather, I think it throws the body chemistry off some how. Good luck this weekend.... and I hope you have a wonderful 2009.

  12. I know exactly what you mean. Exactly. I've been thin on inspiration lately too other than a few brief flashes (no pun intended). Which really sucks since I just acquired a hot new lens that I'd really love to be putting to work right now.

We all go through it. So in the immortal words of REO Speedwagon, just "Keep Pushin' On"... it'll come back. And when it does it'll be better than ever.

  14. Ever since I lost my hard drive, I have tried to get inspired again. It comes and goes, unfortunately. But, I can totally relate to how you are feeling.

  16. Such great pictures, and you call yourself uninspired?
But I get what you try to say here, winter is not my favourite season too!
We went on a photo walk this afternoon, and I came back with loads of grey pictures! Meh!
At least you have blue skies?

Have I wished you all the best for 2009 yet? All the best, and many many happy moments!

  18. Beautiful photos, thanks for sharing. Guess sometimes our words don't seem to go with the photos we pick to post. But our blogging buddies seem to understand that.

  19. Love the bird shots, it is hard to get inspired this time of year. I have a new lens and still am having trouble. Time to go on a big road trip.

  20. Sometimes the weather has that effect on people. Our 3 child C has trouble waking in the morning and walks around like she has a piano tied to her. Our youngest Z who is 11 was talking to me about it when we were driving one day and said she should take her vitamins. I said she should and I don't know what it is with her. Z said, "I know, she has a lack of enthusiasm". We have been using that phrase a lot in the last three weeks since she said it. I think you have a lack of enthusiasm too and perhaps the weekend is what you need to get it back. I am sure when you get some warmer weather there will be a little more enthusiasm as well. I know that helps me.

  21. I think I get the semi-blahs about this time every year. Some nice weather always seems to bring me back around though.

  22. I can't get your "contact me" to show up....we haven't set a date yet, trying to save up some money first :)

Where are you located??? We are getting married in the San Francisco area.

  24. Birds Sing their Songs and Fly Freely through the Skies to New Destinations. I believe your words fit perfectly within the bird motif. Fly and Be Free in 2009 and Beyond...

  27. I can relate to your commentary even as I appreciate EACH of your amazing photos. If you didn't tell us, we'd have no way of knowing these aren't new photographs. I need to take some time to reflect and set some new directions for myself too ... perhaps many of us do.
    Hugs and blessings,

  28. You've kept your feelings pretty much to yourself -- as I've seen a lot of inspiring photos(posts) and not realized you were feeling that way.

I was hoping you would tell me what kind of sparrow that is. Some of them look so much alike --
I like your little thrush. What a great shot of that little shy bird.

  29. I think about frostbite and winter photos. I did get some homemade and store made fingerless gloves which I only used once. What do you use? Nothing I'm guessing. I know what you mean about jumping out the window over the holidays. No, wait, you didn't say that.
