It's an April Fools Day Giveaway! :0)~

It all started with a certain 4 year old (my grandson) going to a birthday party and playing with one of these chickens. Right before Dennis and I left for New Orleans, I asked Tristan what he would like me to bring back for him. He requested, a poopin' chicken.



We searched high and we searched low all across, Mississippi, Louisiana and Illinois and we had no luck! I swear you used to be able to find them everywhere. Not any more let me tell you. Once we were back home I asked my facebook friends to help me locate one. Claires used to have them, they don't anymore, btw. But Toys R Us has them in their party area, or they did in February.

They don't really poop, as you can see. They pop out an egg when squeezed. Some office sites online sell them as stress chickens.

Bagged Milk

How do you get your milk?  We've bought ours in bags since we moved to Wisconsin, but I've never seen it this way anywhere else.  We get our Orange Juice this way too. :0)  Half gallon to a bag - our milk is 99 cents per half gallon.  There's even a drive thru dairy in Marshfield where we used to go a lot to get our freshly bagged milk, lol.

UPDATE:

Q: Is it shelf stable?

A: Nope, it's just like milk in the jugs, has to remain refrigerated.  It's simply in a bladder instead of a plastic jug or carton.

 

Q: Now....do you store it IN the bag?  It doesn't stand up well in the fridge does it???

A: Yep, it stays in the bag, I suppose you could pour it into something else if you wanted.  But in the store, near the bags, you will find plastic pitchers designed to hold you bag of milk or juice.  In the pouring area of the pitcher there's a slit to latch the bag into.  You see you just cut the top corner of the bag a bit, not the whole top.  Then you can twist it and slide it into the slit.  I'll take a pic of the pitcher tomorrow, what was I thinking? lol  I'll add it tomorrow.

Windsor Ruins, Mississippi

Built in 1861, it survived the Civil War only to be destroyed by an accidental fire Feb 17, 1890, the only things surviving were the columns and some metal rails.

The Myrtles Plantation

I was intrigued by the Myrtles when we read it was supposedly haunted and we contemplated spending a night there, but it was a little further out than we wanted to be. So we just swung by, checked it out, snapped a few pics, and bought the t-shirt, lol.



As you enter the drive you are greeted by this little building. I'm assuming it would be a gatekeepers shed thing, as there are gates near it. There's a sign nearby:

Home of the famed Gen David Bradford, leader of the Whisky Rebellion. The Myrtles was built in 1796 on a Spanish Land Grant. The architecture, elaborate plaster work, lacy ironwork make this twenty room mansion one of Louisiana's most unusual plantation homes.

I loved the various statues in the yards, they lent to the eerie, and elegant, feel.





The ancient trees with all they've seen pass through.





The roots, bumping up everywhere, trying to grab your ankle.



Wonderful paths!





The mansion itself, so lovely! We weren't there at a proper time for a tour, but I loved all the details on the outside. Including the black cat lounging in the front yard.

Shivering Birds

At least my friend with the bum foot and broken beak doesn't have to deal with snow too. He had wonderful weather in Louisiana, maybe he could send some sunshine up here. . .please?
