Just a little beach walk

lc2358

Not sure what kind of flower this is, the guys found it while hiking near sandy Beach in Acadia National Park.

I explored the water’s edge while waiting for them. Snails, weird water bugs, starfish, and all sorts of nearly hidden creatures.

When we found this little fellow we did not know what it was either.

But we found out later, while on the lobster boat, that it’s a Toad Crab.

He must have been a baby. Such a tiny guy!

So unusual looking!

  16. First time I've heard of a Toad Crab... but the name fits. How big do they get? Or did the tour guide say?

  17. Your flower looks like it is a member of the native anemone family. If you stop at the national park headquarters or visitors center, they will have books on the native plants found on the island, and/or in the state of Maine. They will also have other nature books too, on birds, sealife, etc.

My trip to Maine many years ago, remains one of my fondest memories, and I'd love to go back someday. I'm SO happy that you are having such a wonderful time!
