How to eat crab

lc2361

As we were leaving Sandy Beach, we discovered a gull eating a crab.

Or, uh, attempting to eat a crab.

He finally got hold of it.

And as we watched, he ran, then flew. . .

And dropped the crab. I think they do this to break into the shell.

I don’t think the crab will be attempting to escape after that tumble.

  1. Well then perhaps he's sedated now? I hope so!

  2. From the title I had expected to pop over and see a big platter of garlic crabs, LOL! They don't look quite as appetizing this way, but I can relate to the bird dropping it to beak the shell! Mmmm but they are so worth whatever you have to do to eat them! :-)

I guess gulls are more resourceful than I thought.

  5. I saw gulls doing the same thing in Maine. They really have the system down!

  6. At the beach one time, I saw a seagull drop a clam on a guy's bald head to open it. The guy was bleeding and everything but it was so funny too ... I tried not to laugh but couldn't help it. At least they know how to eat fresh seafood.

And I love the lobster trip photos and the weird little toad!!

  11. Such a satisfied look on that seagull's face. He must of been pretty hungry. You capture such interesting pictures. You always seem to be in the right place at the right time.

  12. Wonderful set of photos. You gotta feel sorry for that plucky, hapless little crab though.

  13. Imagine trying to get away with this in the dining room?

  14. They'll do that with clams too if they can catch one on the surface. Drop them on a rock to break them open. Crabs having a relatively soft shell by comparison I'm thinking would be tougher to break that way. My guess is that was just to kill his dinner so it would keep still while he was eating it. Really cool series of shots!
