Baby it's cold outside

PhotoStory Friday

The Wisconsin River has many parks and put-ins along its banks in our area. This a canoe put-in and I waded through calf deep snow in negative degree weather, and down a slick slope, just to get closer to the water.

This is where you might put-in a canoe in nicer weather but I don’t think I’ll be getting our canoe out anytime soon.

I love the way the snow collects on the rocks sticking up. Just imagine how cold that water is!

lc1078

The edge would normally be water too, but there’s some snow covered ice.

lc1079

A little further up the way is a small dam, I’m sure it’s this water motion that is keeping so much of the river unfrozen.

I’m just wondering why the few sunny days we have are also some of our coldest days. Brrr!

On the way back to the car I couldn’t resist stopping by the grill. Burger anyone?

  1. I guess now I can't complain about the "frigid" air we're having down here in Florida! :-)

  4. OMG, it's been in the 80's for the last few days, but today it's in the 60's and raining. I'm happy the temps have dropped and we're getting rain, we really need it.

  7. You'll have to stop by my blog and look at yesterday's post. You inspired me to do something a little different and I loved how it turned out.

I think the winter pictures are very pretty........looking at them while sitting by the fire with a cup of hot chocolate. :-) I guess I won't tell you that today we got up to 62 and tomorrow's high is 70!!! Yes, I live in the midwest as well.

    Stay warm.

  12. But the coldest days are also the clearest it seems! I cannot even believe you waded through deep snow just to get some shots. YES, they are beautiful. But no way would I wade through snow to take a pic. I'm really bad like that!! It was 29 below at the cottage last night!

  14. When I saw the word "waded", I almost died! then I realized you were talking about the snow and not the river and felt somewhat better. Yeah, I'd have waded through snow to get these... but you can keep the river for a few more months yet. That's too hardcore even for me!

  15. It's amazing how cold you guys get, but like we had talked about, cold is cold. Theses photos are very serene. My favorites are the ones of the dam. I am a sucker for water photos. When you put the whole thing into a light like that, it really doesn't appear to be cold and the snow fades from the photos.

Thanks for wading through the snow to capture these. They are some of my favorites.

  17. These photos are so gorgeous. There is just nothing more beautiful than snow. I believe snow is God's crown he puts on His earth for us to enjoy. It is like He is saying, "Hey, you were not looking, but got your attention now didn't I."

  30. Wonderful winter images. Are you still wondering about why these sunny days are colder? Me thinks it has to do with no cloud cover holding the warmth down on us.
