This is something new to me and most the houses around here look like ships who have set anchors. Why do they run a long chain from the gutter? I assumed it's acting as a downspout, guiding the water to the ground, but why not just use a downspout? I mean, it's not like leaves and pine needles will clog it like they did in Wisconsin. . .
aesthetics? they make a nice sound, too!
ReplyDeleteps. If it is a windy area it won't blow away like a downspout.
ReplyDeleteThere's a bank in Lake Placid (Florida, not NY) that has chains, too! Its always been a mystery to me...maybe you're right!

ReplyDeleteI think the chains create a barrier so the rain gently glides down into a rain basin instead of crashing down through a gutter and leaving a huge wash-out
ReplyDeleteI have never seen nor heard of such a thing!
