Snapping distance

My husband, by now, is used to me yelling 'Stop! i gotta grab my camera, there's a _____, pull over.' Poor guy doesn't even flinch anymore.

He quickly slowed down (does that make sense?lol), did a u-turn and pulled off for me. This guy was huge!

He seemed friendly enough though.

I laid in the road, to get on his level, but I stayed out of snapping distance, his snapping distance anyway.

  1. My, what big claws you have! Your husband should have taken a picture of you taking a picture of this turtle...now that would have been funny! Great shots!!

  5. You've got him well trained! Mine will stop for critters but for anything else, I have to hit him upside the head a bit!

Great turtle you happened upon. Little does it know it's a celebrity on Camera Critters!

Have a great weekend. I'm looking forward to putting up my second post for Macro Monday!

  9. I laughed at his nose!

We don't have any of these in Alberta. Imagine not being able to roll over onto your back if you wanted.

  10. Really neat! I wish my husband was so supportive. I think my photography obsession is driving him nuts. "honey. ... see what I got today ..." I tell him of the hawk I finally got, or a cool flower shot, or one of the kids.. and it just doesn't even interest him anymore. I would never ask him to stop on the road, I've been told too many times, "it's only a ...." or "there are other people on the road! I can't just stop."
Don't get me wrong, he supports my habit in other ways (gifting me with the camera, teaching me how to use it). I guess he just never thought I would become so obsessive with it.

  13. oh you are one adventurous lady, laying in a road braving the jaws of a snapping turtle. All for the sake of a gorgeous photo. bless you. :)

  14. I've done the same thing and taken pictures - of roadkill. haha. My guy is pretty supportive, too. We've been late for some important things because I saw a perfect wildife moment...and yes, road kill counts. So funny. I lie on the ground, too! haha We are so kindred.

Turtles are great. I hope he made it across teh road. Too many turtles die each year on roads ebing run over. I've dogged traffic plenty of times to grab a turtle or any other creature (including birds).

  15. oh, one more thing. One of my labmates is doing his master's project on turtles and according to him your guy is a guy. Those long claws are a good clue to it being a male, most females don't have those long claws.

  19. He is so cute! I love turtles!
When you mentioned that you were laying in the road it reminded me of when I was laying in my kitchen floor (you got me as to what I was trying to get a photo of) but the funny part was when I realized every single family member had walked in, stepped over me and never said a word or thought anything of it, LOL! :-)

  20. Great photos of a very handsome fella. My husband does the same thing for me all the time. Don't you just love it when you get lucky and see something great when you are not expecting it. And your camera is with you, thats the best part. Nice job, I enjoyed reading your post.
