Natural Macro Monday

lc2678

Now why, would this pretty butterfly be sitting on the gravel when there's such a pretty flower nearby?

lc2679

I'm not a fan of Irises, but I love the tiny Water Irises.

lc2680

Silly butterflies!

lc2681

They were even on poop - why not on the flowers?!

I feel very fortunate to have found these tiny wild orchids! I think they're Calopogon tuberosus, but don't hold me to that.

Macro Monday is easy to play, snap a macro (or any close-up) photo, post it on your blog and come back here and sign MckLinky. Don't forget to visit each other. :)

  2. Oops. When it said "Link title" that's what I put in there. Oddly, I snagged a butterfly myself this week. I rarely get them to sit still long enough to get a good shot. And they certainly weren't as cooperative as yours were. But it worked out alright. Of course, I still don't have your touch for the insect world.

  7. I love butterflies.

There must've been some food or pollen on the ground that were interesting them.

  12. Wonderful flower and butterfly photos. It is puzzling why they'd prefer rocks and poop to those stunning flowers!

  16. Maybe...just maybe they like the warmth of the ground as opposed to the coolness of the flower? Who cares though cuz your photos are BEAUTIFUL just the same!

  27. That's a good question, poop or flowers? I know what I'd choose, but I'm not a butterfly. Like everyone else, though, I agree, great pictures!

  30. Hello Lisa,

I found you via margie at Soeur du Jour. I love the Monarch butterfly and that dainty orchid.

What a fun meme. I played along!

  31. The butterflies are beautiful! Such crisp and clear photos!!

  32. Apparently, butterflies land on the ground because they need minerals and they can get them from the rocks etc. Perhaps poop is full of minerals too! LOL! They may also like the warmth, as someone suggested.

Beautiful photos! And that wild orchid is gorgeous - great find, great shot!

  33. Truly the only butterflies I have seen this year were the monarchs I raised.
I haven't seen a Viceroy like the one in your first picture in a long time - some websites say they are western inhabitants others say they live all over.

I like your iris photo. They are so hard to get a good picture of. I am not of fan of the flower itself either. My sister asked me to come and shoot some photos of her garden - and I did, but she has beds and beds of irises. She loves them! Oh well, I did my best.

Thanks for hosting this carnival - or whatever you call it. I am not really a mommy blogger - I work full time and my kids are teenagers. But I love photography and trying to get better, It's nice to have a place to easily click on other folks who love photography too.

  34. That is fascinating that they were on everything except the flowers!

  35. I don't know where you are seeing all the butterflies. I see bees and other insects, but have not seen a butterfly this year yet. These are beautiful shots and you're a lucky person to see them, and have your camera at hand, too!

  36. I like the vulture pictures. They are hard to get snaps of.
