Going underground

lc2656

One of the most exciting things, to me, while traveling through Pennsylvania, is going through the tunnels. Yeah, I know I need to get a life. Lol

There’s another one! (Right before we entered this one a semi had a blow out - very loud! - scared the be-jeebers out of us!)

Here we go again!

Weeeeeeee!

Hey, I know these aren't the best - you try focusing while going 60-70mph!

  2. Ah these tunnels ! When go to Italy there are plenty and some very long it takes you 15 min at least to go through one mountain of the Alpes and around the Garda lake where he comes from you always "sit" in a tunnel and for a few seconds you see the lake, lol !

i enjoy driving through tunnels, too. there's a feeling of anticipation before seeing the light at the end of a tunnel.

  4. I kind of have the opposite feeling when going through tunnels....maybe I am a closet claustrophic? I do remember going through one VERY similar when Meish and I drove to Philadelphia! And even at 60mph....you still get great shots!~!

  5. Those are nice photos! Did you hold your breath? There's an old saying, you wish and hold your breath while under a tunnel but never do with a looooong tunnel!

  6. Tunnels for me are a bit creepy! I really get a bit freaked in the long ones! And yet I find their design and lighting effects fascinating! Great photos!

  7. I LOVE going through tunnels too. Happy memories of all the honking my Dad did while going through them on family trips together!

  8. The art of drive-by photography takes some getting used to for sure. Especially if you're the one driving. A fast shutter usually helps a lot. That and autofocus.

The only tunnels that make me nervous are the underwater ones. Just the idea of that much water over my head... but it doesn't make me dysfunctional or anything.

  9. I think pretty darn good for taken from a moving vehicle! I'm fascinated by tunnels too...how DO they build them...especially the ones under water like Chesapeake Bay. Anymore though, I'm just as glad to be through them than in them...infrastructure issues and all that...

  10. OH NO! I hate going through tunnels! Especially the one under Sydney Harbour! What if an earthquake happens??? LOL! I remember the first time SB drove under there to avoid the bridge traffic and tricked me! I thought it was a regular tunnel and nearly killed him when he told me I had just gone under water underground! These days he just takes that way anyway , norty boy!

  12. I enjoy going through tunnels sometimes. I only had one bad experience in Chicago. I was driving us back home after a vacation and the sun was really bright. Upon entering the tunnel I couldn't see anything for the sunspots in my eyes. I was terrified. John just kept guiding me through. I didn't see anything until the light shone at the other end. I don't know how I kept from hitting someone. Otherwise tunnels are okay. Great pics even at 60- 70 mph. Hope all is well. Have a great day.

  13. Tunnels are cool and creepy all at once. I've driven through the Midtown Tunnel between Queens and Manhattan quite a bit, and I always have that split second of trepidation before I go in... like, what if THIS is the moment it springs a leak and I'm about to become one with the East River? LOL

    thanks for playing this week!

  14. Looks like a scary place to try to take photos! Great tunnel, though. All the work that's been put into creating them is inspiring. I like the very old ones lined with stones that we sometimes see around here.

  15. You did a good job focusing! I love going through tunnels too, although it´s kind of spooky when you know there is water above. That´s the only tunnel I know (in the Vancouver area), and it goes underneath a river.

  18. I've always been afraid of water. I can swim, and I love the beach, but I hate boats and bridges are almost the worst. But the top of my fear list came when I lived in Virginia Beach.I fretted constantly over the fact pretty much the only way out of there was thru the very long underwater tunnels. Always hated them, never could get used to them. I miss the area, but I'm so glad to be back in the northeast and away from those tunnels!

  19. Oh wow... reminds me or Princess Di incident... Those are nice shots! Good job!

  20. You HAVE TO love PA tunnels. The whole state has that "you've got a friend in" "brotherly love" thing going.

If I were to leave my beloved home of Connecticut, I'd make my to PA if NC had no room for me. Because it's all good.

  21. I love tunnels... unless they are underwater... then I'm a bit claustrophobic. But I totally get into going places that have tunnels.

  22. I prolly missed your post where you talked about why you were traveling so much. I know you did the bridal show. Did you guys just meander there and back or did you have intentional plans for so much wandering.
