When we were in Florida last winter we spent some time combing the beach for shark's teeth. We had a lot of fun and found hundreds in just a few hours time.
It was fun watching them wash in and trying to catch them before they were taken back out.
A few people have wondered which beach we went to, well I happened to snap a photo of the sign so I wouldn't forget, lol.
Macro Monday is easy to play, snap a macro (or any close-up) photo, post it on your blog and come back here and sign MckLinky. :) MM started on Sept 29, 2008 - THANX to all of you for helping make it such a fun start to the week!
They look more like rocks to me than teeth.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. I didn't know you could find them on beaches!
ReplyDelete[...] for Macro Monday. [...]
ReplyDeletehow awesome, living at the beach I see them made into jewerly. I have yet to find any on the beaches here though.
ReplyDeleteWow Lisa, I've never seen this before. Great macro.
ReplyDeleteYou know, I cannot help but imagine some sharks going around toothless (can you imagine a caricature?), and some with sparkling shiny sets of dentures (imagine another caricature!)
Have a nice week!
That is truly the darnest thing I ever heard. We don't get sharks teeth washing up, here. Wonder why they wash up there!
ReplyDeleteLisa these are remarkable...especially the final photo with the tiny tooth on your finger!
ReplyDeleteWow! hundreds? thats so fun.. especially great up close!
ReplyDeleteOh wow..Your macro shots are fantastic! The shark teeth are awesome..
ReplyDeleteMakes me want to go to the beach.
ReplyDeleteAwesome shots!
That sounds like so much fun! Your shots are great.
ReplyDeleteTheir loss is your gain. These are super shots. Of course, these guys could be doing with a better dentist!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen so many teeth and they washed up on the beach??!! Sounds like a dangerous place to swim :-o
ReplyDeleteThe photo showing fingerprints is awesome: so clear!
ReplyDeletegreat Macros an di really like those teeths. I wonder why they loose them? Think they look like small stones.
ReplyDelete[...] fun for Lisa’s Macro Monday this week is to keep posting these were cactus [...]
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't know they are shark teeth ,thought they are just tiny stones.
ReplyDeleteHi Lisa,
ReplyDeleteAs a science teacher I can't tell you how fascinating this is to me. Can you tell us which beach in Florida or is this a well-guarded secret?
I love their beauty and these are great shots!

Well, you learn something every day. I have never seen sharks' teeth and had no idea you could beach comb for them. Fascinating. I also am curious about which beach.

ReplyDelete[...] an inch and a half long and two inches at it’s widest point… A perfect specimen for my Macro Monday [...]
ReplyDeleteamazing shots! my first time here!
ReplyDeleteInteresting small little things! Great shots!
ReplyDeleteI first didn't understand and had to google for Shark's teeth, lol ! I thought they were kind of little stones you find on the beach, but apparently these are really teeth ! Besides that the pictures are so neat and clear, I know feel like seeing a dentist's technician making up false teeth for a shark ! I safe myself !
ReplyDeletesorry, I mean "I now" feel ...
ReplyDeleteGreat photos.
ReplyDeleteWou that is a real treasure at least it would be in Finland:)
ReplyDeleteThey really look like polished pebbles. Interesting photos in macro mode.
ReplyDeleteRosie
Woah! I didn't realize these were shark teeth. I thought they were peculiar looking small stones or pebbles. The constant wearing of the elements made the surfaces of the teeth smooth. That's quite a collection there.
ReplyDeleteThat is so precious, Lisa! They look like rocks. I will post mine when I get home later!
ReplyDeleteflorida sounds like a great place to be right now...
ReplyDeletei just woke up to a thick new layer of snow on the ground!
c'mon spring!!!
Woof Lisa, I didn't know sharks have black fangs! Mine are all yellow and dull. ;-(
ReplyDeleteNice shots. It is strange somehow that there are so many shapes on them. And they are smalller then I would think they sere. :)
ReplyDelete[...] Macro Monday [...]
ReplyDeleteHad you shown those things without explanation I wouldn't have had any idea what they were! Ouch, they remind me that I have a few dental jobs ahead of me... ;)
ReplyDeleteThat's really cool. They look almost fossilized.
ReplyDeleteLooks almost like jewels. :-) Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteAssuming that there are waves that grinds them so attractive.
Now I have participated for the first time! :-)
Great to use the teeth as subject. something I would have chosen also, had I found them. Our minds must think alike!
ReplyDeleteBeaches are a no-go area for my wheels though. Unlike many other of your visitors, I did recognise them. Had seen them before-had no camera at the time.
Well done and take care,
Yoke.
Those are really cool!
ReplyDeleteGreat finds and excellent macros.
ReplyDeleteI never knew what those were! Now to get back to the right kind of shore.....
ReplyDeletelove the detail
ReplyDeleteWow love the last macro shot because you see can your fingerprint swirls and texture too...awesome!
ReplyDeleteThey are things of beauty.
ReplyDeleteWho'd have thought it.
I am surprised that they don't look sharp.
Were they worn and polished by the sea and the sand?
Shark teeth? Yikes! Great shots though.
ReplyDeleteWow, looks more like rocks than teeth! Great shots!
ReplyDeleteNever seen anything like it. Your pictures are so clear. I am impressed.
ReplyDelete(I am new in this blog world. Happy to participate on Macro Monday. Looking

Great macros Lisa. I cannot believe how many you found!
ReplyDeleteI have never seen shark teeth. At first I think they look like smooth rocks!
