My son brought me this beautiful butterfly, back when it was warmer, it was barely moving at all, we're not sure what happened to it. On the right you can see my fingerprint on its wing.
Its movelessness (yep, just made that up) made it to where I could really study it. I saw fine hairs along the edges of its wings and colored glitter in patterns.
Macro Monday is easy to play, snap a macro (or any close-up) photo, post it on your blog and come back here and sign MckLinky. :) MM started on Sept 29, 2008 - Thanx to all of you for helping make it such a fun start to the week!
I think the colors look like little pixels on a computer screen.
I love all the fine details you captured....it does look like glitter! Very pretty!
ReplyDeletei love the detail too.. very colorful!
ReplyDeletei love the details too.. very colorful!
ReplyDeleteThey are.
ReplyDeleteLike little pixels on a PC screen. And they have had their own tiny solar panels millennia before we did.
Amazing world.

ReplyDeleteOh, I love these colors! Simply outstanding captures!!
ReplyDeleteIt's too bad the poor fellow was sickly, but it gave us the perfect opportunity to admire the colors close up. Nice shots!
ReplyDeleteI've never been so close to a butterfly. Maybe he drank too much nectar.
ReplyDeletevery pretty. I wish we had such colorful butterflies here. Your lucky. And yes it does glitter. Almost looks like powder paint. Cool.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gift to be able to look at it so closely!
ReplyDeleteGreat detail capture! Glitter wings indeed!
ReplyDeleteWas this taken around the same time as your experiment butterfly a few posts back? I wonder what caused the immobility or movelessness as you put it ;-P . Did this pretty butterfly ever recover?
Butterflies are amazing! All that fine dust on their wings helps them fly, and it's beautifully arranged, just as God painted them!
ReplyDeletestunning macro shot. the detail is unreal. I love the hairs, who'd have thought butterflies were so hairy LOL
ReplyDeleteIt makes me a little sad .... but your comment made me laugh! You can borrow that phrase any time - it kind of says it all!
ReplyDeletePoor little white admiral butterfly...but great opportunity to look at it up close....Michelle
ReplyDeleteGorgeous colors with such fine details.
ReplyDeleteAwesome Lisa! When I was a kid I was told to avoid the wings of butterflies because there are powdery stuff which can make you blind. I'm not sure if that's true but that's the reason I never touch it!
ReplyDeletegorgeous Lisa, absolutely gorgeous. Yes I see the finger prints!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful model ! I only saw moth looking like butterflies this year and only a handful !
ReplyDeleteThose details and colors are fabulous Lisa!
ReplyDeleteSuch amazing details shots!!
ReplyDeletePoor butterfly ... they don't live very long, do they, so maybe it was just old? Those beautiful wings don't look it though, do they? Perhaps it ran foul of some insecticide, or maybe it was simply cold!
ReplyDeleteThe scales on the wings, which give them such extraordinary beauty, are indeed like dust - they come off so easily. A perfect example of the fragility of life. He made a great macro though!
I love these close ups. Who would have thought butterflies had hairy wings!
ReplyDeleteColorful, wonderful details!

ReplyDeletenice wings Lisa! to bad they don´t fly around my place. :(
ReplyDeleteYour butterfly looks like a White Admiral aka Red Spotted Purple aka Red Spotted Admiral. All of the 'akas' because they used to be considered two species, and are now thought to be one. I've seen Macro Monday around on other blogs and decided to give it a try. Posted a Western Pygmy-Blue - hope everyone enjoys.

[...] Today I went for a walk in a park just 10 minutes from where I live, just me and my camera. I really enjoyed it and got some great photos. I have lived near this park for three and a half years and this is the first time I have explored it. It won’t be the last! I haven’t had time to edit them all yet but when I do I plan to post a photo walk post. For now this is my entry to macro monday on Lisa’s chaos. [...]
