The Great North Woods
Right after we crossed into New Hampshire we found this fun sign, a pose was necessary. How do I look as a moose?
Other than stopping for a few caches we only made one other stop in New Hampshire and it was to have lunch. That didn’t work out so well. We stopped at the Waterwheel Breakfast & Gift House in Jefferson, along US-2. We stood by the door and the “Please wait to be seated” sign for nearly 15 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. Once we were seated the waitress took our order fairly quickly. I decided to shop the gift store while we waited for our food and while my purchases were being rung up the owner of the joint started yelling at his waitresses. Now they were in the kitchen but his voice carried throughout the place. He was yelling because they were bringing him orders and more orders and it was 1:45 - the place was due to close in 15 minutes. He said he was the owner and he would just throw everyone out. He droned on, rather loudly, for a good 5 minutes (felt like longer). Some people came in and they were turned away. We decided to leave without eating. 45 minutes wasted! Needless to say New Hampshire left us with a sour taste.
Even with stopping for a couple of caches in New Hampshire we were through the state in less than an hour driving time. Like Vermont, it’s a little state. Then we were in Maine! Woo-hoo!
We stopped for a cache and found this cute little wayside.
Picnic time.

I'm sorry for your wasted time in NH. Seems some people are allergic to having paying customers. I don't blame you for leaving and I feel sorry for that owners workers who have to endure that kind of behavior everyday. Love that picture of you guys beside that sign and that first picture is simply playful. My favorites however are those last ones. That place looks as though it were a find. Hope all is well.
ReplyDeleteThe riverside find is very cool. What a bummer about the NH place.
ReplyDeleteSad that an owner would do that!
ReplyDeleteI love the Indian find! Way cool!
Love the images against the lovely scenery.
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful indeed!
Hi Lisa,
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad about New Hampshire.
The pictures here today are absolutely gorgeous (and you look great as a moose!).
Fun stories...sometimes trips make you realize that "there's no place like home".
ReplyDeleteI love it when I find a little out of the way spot to enjoy lunch. I looks great there.
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures and I hear that Maine is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. Sounds like that restaurant owner didn't want to stay in business much longer! lol
ReplyDeletelove the indian shots--and the happy moose! Here’s my photo story. happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteDarn about the restaurant. What a bummer! The shot of you too by the Maine sign is GREAT and oh so cute!
ReplyDeleteLove the wayside picnic area too!
I guess that owner wasn't is the restaurant business to make money huh? At least you got through the state in no time flat! Hope Maine was nicer to you!
ReplyDeleteBet you never thought - I'm going to pose as a moose today.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame that the one place you picked to stop and eat, was where the owner was a BOZO!
ReplyDeleteI like the first photo - I like fun and silly :-)
ReplyDeleteDid you dip a toe in the wayside water? Looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI soooo hate people that are rude and stupid to the point of wanting to make them as miserable as they've made you. Usually places that attract tourists bend over backwards to please you, not bend you over. I swear, I would have burst in that kitchen and made the trip really memorable for everyone. And recorded it and put it on YouTube.
Wonder if there's a site called donteatthere.com ....ha, checked, there is, but they stopped publishing...hmmm, my blog is ending soon...
Hey, still wanna do a review? Plenty of time.
That's sad about New Hampshire. It's a state I haven't been to,but I imagine it would be one of my favorites. Love your little cache location. Such a fun thing.
ReplyDeleteI'm so enjoying your photos from your trip. You are a beautiful moose. LOL
ReplyDeleteThat's fun! Sorry that restaurant killed NH. Not a user friendly state, anyhow. It's the under-appreciated sibling of Boston, basically. It hates being a bedroom.
ReplyDeleteLoved your photos.
What great pictures! I love the one with you two. Very cute.
