We got up early the next morning and went back to the falls. If you missed the night shots you can click here. The silhouette photo was taken at this railing near horseshoe falls.
We were blessed with a double rainbow.
And we just had to know if there was a pot of gold at the end of it. (The little white spots are gulls)
Not sure I see any gold, but it's pretty cool that the rock shares the rainbow colors.
We continued our Goat Island tour by going to the Cave of the Winds. That deck looks a little scary - and wet- from up here doesn't it? We put the little point and shoot in a waterproof package and took it with us.
So the rest of these photos were shot with the Olympus point and shoot by Dennis. Here's me at the first deck. Not much water on me yet. That's Bridal Veil Falls behind me.
I love this shot! That's me looking like an angel. :) Dennis did good!
Ok, my feet are getting wet now, and the water is cold, but I'm still smiling.
Now Haden and I are on the Hurricane Deck, a mere 20' from Bridal Veil Falls. Very windy and wet!
And Dennis says, "Back up a little. Back up." About this time a huge splash plopped on my head, soaking me entirely. Those rain things aren't really that helpful, they are an illusion of dryness. Before this I was having a good hair day! Haden's still smiling.
Next we went on the Maid of the Mist Boat tour. We would have loved to take our big cameras down there but just couldn't risk it. So again, the point and shoot had to snap our memories.
The force of all the water falling kept our boat pretty rocky and there were plenty of splashes to make a clear photo nearly impossible.
Me, trying to find a dry spot at the base of horseshoe falls. We just stayed there letting the water pellet us. What did I say about a good hair day?
Dennis isn't happy with these photos, the water droplets irk him to no end. But I think they help reveal what we were going through at the time the photos were taken. It was wet, windy and the waters kept raging. Great memories!
It calms down a lot once you get away from the falls. We were on a boat just like the one in the photo and that's Canada over there.
I really want to go back, to bring the camera and to bring my family - it is so wonderful and you show it with your photos.
ReplyDeleteThank you,
Maria Berg, Sweden
Magnificent scenes! Impressive captures of mother nature.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are beautiful! I love them all. Looks like you and Dennis had so much fun on your road trip!
ReplyDeleteLooks like fun. Was the water cold?
ReplyDeleteWOW!!
ReplyDeleteKnowing what I know now, I would not risk my camera either! Great shots though!
Ahh! So you did get on the Maid of the Mist. It's an awesome ride!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness what an amazing place to visit!
ReplyDeletehow nice, I´m being flooded with memories. I visited Niagara in 1990, so long ago now :)
ReplyDeleteYou ARE an angel. Great, great photos.
ReplyDeleteStunning, even with the water droplets. You guys are so brave!
ReplyDeleteHello Lisa~ More great pictures. I can't imagine standing so close to all that power. You and your family fared well. Your pictures make me long to see these falls. They're incredible. But, I'm not sure I would want to use their raincoats. I think I might take my own. Still I think I would get wet. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteWow! How beautiful the falls look, especially with the rainbows!
ReplyDeleteHold the phone a minute... is that deck actually in the river?? I bet their insurance company hates them! Marvelous shots... and I don't blame you for leaving the big guns behind. No way I'd take my 30D into that. Unless I had an underwater housing for it anyway.
ReplyDeletePretty incredible! Someday I hope to get there and get wet too!
ReplyDeleteWow, Awesome! I've never, EVER, seen the end of a rainbow. I thought that shot was very neat! Even with the point and shoot, the falls are beautiful. I can't believe you and Haden got so wet! Did Dennis take all the photos are did you make him "back up" so you could snap a few? lol!
ReplyDeleteThese are all beautiful shots.Looks like you had fun.
ReplyDeleteIncredible!!! The fifth, sixth and the angel you one are my absolute favorites! The Cave of Winds one, with the angle they were taken, looks like something out of a scary and mysterious movie. Great job on all of these.
ReplyDeleteI did the 'Maid of the Mist tour' and I still have the blue waterproof. Love your photos.
ReplyDeleteWow !
ReplyDeleteThese are very, very wet, but unbelieveble beautiful photos !
These are great shots!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been there in years but these shots are tugging at me.
I've lived close to Niagara Falls for 5 years now and still have never gone on the maid of the mist ... this morning we had a lot of fog, I ran out in the driveway in my pyjamas to take a pic of the vineyard across the street. It's in my post today ...
ReplyDeleteDennis did great with the point & shoot ...
I feel like I went on vaca with you! These were fantastic. Every adult in my family (mine and Mr Hubby) had been to NYC, Niagra ..... heck my mom was born in Buffalo I am the only one that has not been, so these shots were so nice for me. Lets move on to the amazing I said AMAZING rainbow shots you posted OMG woman those are to die for! (not literally ok) I am dying over here Now!

ReplyDeleteHi Lisa,
ReplyDeleteLooks like you guys had tons of fun! Love the shots where you're getting all wet!
Maybe I'm a sucker for danger - but I like the shots of you and Haden having a near death experience.
ReplyDeleteWow. (I think I say that everytime I see your photos!) These are incredible. I had no idea you got that wet there. One day I'd love to go.
ReplyDeleteWow, those photos are FABULOUS...who cares about the water droplets on them. What a FUN experience...one that you will NEVER forget! Thanks for sharing them with us:)
ReplyDeleteLoved the nighttime and daytime photos -- that silhouette photo of the people at the railing that you captured was wonderful! It's been over 5 years since I was last at Niagara Falls; since I lived in northeast Ohio, it wasn't too far away for us. The group I went with the last time was mucho fun. We had a great time! ;)
ReplyDeleteI love those hurricane deck shots too. The one looks like the Alps are behind you.
ReplyDeleteWOW those photos, great pictures, looks like fun
ReplyDeleteThese are all amazing shots! Love the rainbow, especially seeing the "end" of the rainbow, and the second to last one with the gulls and that green water seems so peaceful and majestic to me...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots! I am not sure I would want to be in the middle of that falls though! Yikes!
ReplyDeletelisa, you were just a couple of miles from kath's house!!
ReplyDeleteStunning shots. Just beautiful, both you and the falls. Wow!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous shots. I love the ones of you getting soaked. Very cute.
ReplyDeleteloved it myself when i was there its an awesome experience
ReplyDeleteThese photos are absolutely amazing! I love the double rainbows.
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see those photos. My great uncle drove the maid of the mist on the canadian side for many many years. I have photos of me as a child in the captains seat with his captains hat on. =D
ReplyDeleteWhat a AMAZING photo series ... perfect for Watery Wednesday ;--)
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings,
These were so great! I love them! Looks like fun getting wet like that! And I love the angel one! Looks like you are going to walk right up to heaven! And the rainbows...amazing!
ReplyDeleteI went to the Canada side of Niagara falls when I was a teenager. It is definitely a site to see.

ReplyDeleteI noted your Facebook notes on the states you were passing through. What a trip!
Wow, great shots. I love the rainbow ones. You sure can get a lot closer to the Falls than you used to be able. It's been many years since I've been there.
