Macro Monday Spaghetti

One of my favorite things about this summer - freshly made spaghetti.  Everything on the plate is homemade from scratch. :0)

It's long been a desire of mine to try making spaghetti noodles, however, I was afraid to. Well, I found an inexpensive pasta roller so thought it would be a great time to try it, figuring if I liked the taste I would invest in the pasta parts for my Kitchen Aid mixer.

Well the noodles are great! Easy to make, quick to cook and taste just as good after being frozen which means I can make up huge batches and only make the kitchen a mess every now and then. :0) I don't even think I need the parts for my mixer now, this little hand one is working fine.

All of my wonderful tomato plants are keeping us in such a steady supply of tomatoes that we can also make our own sauce, with fresh herbs too.

Friday Find - Vintage Director's Chair

20120727-153305.jpg

Found this vintage chair missing the canvas. Husband just cleaned the wood up then passes it on to me for the sewing. I really like how it turned out. I think we have about $10 in it.

Tow Mater

Who knew Tow Mater was in Hewitt wisconsin, lol.

Friday Find - Shelf

I was happy when I found these old drawers for a quarter a piece.  I wasn't sure how I was going to use them but I brought them home anyway.  (PS, the radio cart is another find and comes in so handy, we just haven't gotten around to repainting it yet.)  I did envision them being lively colors, so a good cleaning, sanding and repainting was in order.

I decided I would sit those little boxes on this old oak shelf I picked up earlier in the day for $5.  All I did to this was clean it, a lot - it was  nearly black - just filthy.  After it dried from it's thorough cleaning, which included light sanding, I put a coat of Restore on it then some beeswax.

By evening everything was dry and I put it on my sewing room's book shelf to hold threads, and scissors, etc.

Bye bye ravioli

After 6 years with our cute lil rav4, we decided to trade her for another. We've been talking for a while about getting a jeep but we didn't want to have a car payment again. So we saved our pennies and looked around and found this sunny one with less miles than our ravioli has. We think we'll like her.

Getting things done

With a view like that from one of my sewing room windows is it any wonder I don't get much done?  I swear I have just been sitting watching birds for the last hour.  Mostly black throated sparrows this morning, but also a few white-breasted nuthatches, goldfinches, house finches, mourning doves, and even a rose-breasted grosbeak.  You can't see it very well but there's a painted birdhouse hanging in the pines and  a sparrow couple are building in it, they are so funny to watch.  Off to the left of the last tree is a platform feeder too.  (While I was typing this I scared off a red squirrel from it.)

I did finish up this fabric basket yesterday though. :0) (Sorry for crappy picture - taken with cell in near dark)

Also made the canvas seat and back for this vintage director's chair.  Today I'm hoping to work on one of the quilts.  Maybe I should cover my windows, lol.

Friday Find - Antique Glass Candy Jar

Found this old candy jar at a garage sale.  It's a vintage round glass container with 2 flat spots to sit it upright, or tilted, with a metal screw on lid.  These used to sit in candy stores, general stores - just imagine how many little hands have reached inside.  They sell for about $80 in antique stores, I did a quick search and found one on ebay for $95.  I paid $30 for the jar and a little more for all the candy to fill it, lol.

Not a Flower :0) Macro Monday

Seems I've been only taking flower photos lately so I thought I'd dig into a folder I hadn't finished with from last fall.

Butterfly quilt blocks

20120705-144759.jpg

While resting my foot I decided I would check out my butterfly blocks to see how many more I will need. The pattern I am using had a finished quilt size of 44 x 55 but I want a king size quilt approximately 109 inches by 109 inches, so I know I need a lot more than 18 butterflies. But just how many do I need?

20120705-144807.jpg

The butterflies all still need little black bodies but I decided to do the bodies after I have all of the blocks completed. This isn't the final location for each butterfly, just a way to see how many I need. Well, it looks like I need 145 butterflies total, I have 106 ready for bodies so I'm very close. :)

Thanks again to all of you who helped by sending fabrics!!  I have managed to keep it to where there are only 1 or 2 butterflies of each fabric - except one of the first ones I cut, there are 3 of it, lol.

Lily Macro Monday

One of the first blooms at the new place.  There are a lot of lilies planted about, different kinds and most all have bloomed or are blooming now.
