I recently went geocaching and while walking along the frozen shoreline came across these snails amongst the ice. So many of them, so odd.
Although it's hard to see the ice, all of these are frozen beneath the water too.
Macro Monday is easy to play, snap a macro (or any close-up) photo, post it on your blog and come back here and sign MckLinky. :) MM started on Sept 29, 2008 - THANX to all of you for helping make it such a fun start to the week!
btw - all these are iPhone pictures. :0)
Now that is an unusual and beautiful sight!

Wow! What fascinating photos, and what an unusual thing to see. I wish I knew more about how it came to be. I'm amazed that you took those photos with your iPhone. I took my Macro Monday offering with a lot more sophisticated gear but I don't think the photo is as good.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen such snails before. They seem to have had a hard winter - no life left. Great pictures Lisa!

Mysterious, and sad, but very beautiful. Thanks for showing us this unique sight. And yay for the geocaching thing. I love to go with hubby and take photos while he finds things, usually in parks and other worthwhile photo sites.
ReplyDeleteI have never seen snails like this and apparently living in water, they look quiet pretty for a snail ! I only know the nasty snails which eat my plants !
ReplyDeleteOne of the more interesting and unusual macro series I've seen. Really nice. Then to read all done with an iPhone!!! Grrrr....
ReplyDeleteGreat shots!

ReplyDeleteNice find Lisa and great shots. I'm always amazed at what can be found in ice (not that we get much here is southeast Virginia. I wonder if the shells all washed up in one place or if the snails all moved there before hibernating for the winter?
ReplyDeleteAwesome captures Lisa!
