Lest you think Philadelphia is all seriousness and historical, I need to show the fun side too! Huge game pieces delighted us in an area full of new buildings and old.
Dominoes, Bingo, Chess and Monopoly, to name a few.
Sorry - how I remember hours of fun playing that as a child.
I was rooked in and could have played for hours!
These unusual art features monopolized a lot of my time.
B-I-N-G-O
And amongst, all the fun and games was an important sculpture, not to be overlooked.
'In commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence'
"Symbolizing family life, 'The wellspring of society, the hope of the future' and the concept of government being of, by and for the people. . ."
A place of celebration and remembrance!
Glad we got all that ironed out. ;0)
NEVER seen such a BIG games before
ReplyDeleteAMAZING shots......
I love it :)
I love your commentary to the figures! :) So clever! :)
ReplyDeleteI bet kids love to play in this area!
I would never have thought they had such things around all the historical buildings. Very neat though.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots, love the chess pieces.
ReplyDeleteHe stands there every day and waits for the sun to heat up the iron so he can get his shirt ironed!
ReplyDeleteWhat no Queen of Hearts? Or was she on her tea break?
ReplyDeleteThe chess pieces reminded me of the Mel Brooks movie History of the World: Part I. "Give the Queen some air, she's been so good to all of us."
Lisa, I'll have to check - but that may be the most visual puns used in a single blog entry.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun place to visit!
ReplyDeleteHow cool!!
ReplyDeleteAWESOME!! You know, for having a brother and sister in law in Philly, I never knew half this stuff existed until you pointed it out. lol! This would have been a fabulous place to play around in. I love the Sorry piece shot, and the matching angle you gave it with the building behind it. Nice!

I've easing back into Blogland and am totally enjoying your photos from Philadelphia. I grew up around Philly and live outside it now and don't often see the cool things you saw in it. Thanks for showing it to me from a different perspective ... and I've never seen these game pieces. We'll have to go hunt them down and check 'em out ourselves.
ReplyDeleteThat look so fun I would like to see it my self.
ReplyDeleteThe Hat was my favorite when I played Monopol.
The bird on the top post sitting with all the spikes where it is not suppose to sit love it.
