I'm sure you've noticed that I'm not too into black and white, but I couldn't resist changing a couple of these.
The day was so bright and her shades of green so varied I think the b&w shows the features better.
To the mothers of the nation. . .
She moved me to tears, I thought of all the mothers praying for the safety of their children, our soldiers.
I guess the black and white does bring the message through so much more clearly! Funny myself I prefer the greens but mentally the black brings in that feeling of sorrow! Nice how we are brain washed into that isn't it? Hmmmmmmm!
ReplyDeleteLike both in color and b&w...touching monument. Where?
ReplyDeleteOnce a Mother, always a Mother...even after they leave home, we are still their Mother. The emotional tie we have with our children can never be broken:)
ReplyDeleteI like this statue a lot!! love the b&w
ReplyDeleteAgreed on both counts. I often use B&W in light like this for that very reason. Harsh midday light washes out color anyway, so why not just dispense with it altogether? But I'm a big B&W fan to begin with, so I don't need much of an excuse.
ReplyDeleteAnd my first thought was about all the mothers losing sons in the war too. Nicely done Lisa. Nicely done.
What a profound picture. I love the b&w in this series as it brings forth her sorrow much more clearly. Thanks for sharing such beautiful art. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely tragic statue..
ReplyDeleteWhat a great statue, with such an important message! I´m sure many a mother can feel what it represents! Like me too!
ReplyDeleteLisa, I am such a big fan of black and white. The details in this piece are amazing and the green color is beautiful. But the black and white really allows you to focus on the subject and that is so powerful. Thanks for sharing this lovely inspiration today!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the day!

The title alone brought me to tears.... Beautiful statue. what is she holding in her hands? I can't tell.
ReplyDeleteA very beautiful sculpture done by a very sensitive artist !
ReplyDeleteI do like the unifying effect of black and white, esp when there's some extraordinary texture and line to show off. Very nice, Lisa.
ReplyDeletelovely shots...nice work!
ReplyDeleteThis beautiful statue sends a very powerful message, so poignant in its meaning. Your photos are wonderful and I agree, the black and white does bring out more of the details.
ReplyDeleteThe object she holds is a burning oil lamp. Perhaps depicting the old adage "Burning the midnight oil" but more in reference to her agonizing hours of waiting in prayer rather than working overtime as it has become known.
ReplyDeleteHow gorgeous Lisa! This is my favorite series of photos this week, very moving! I love the Meeting Bloggers entry too, what fun! :-)
ReplyDeleteThat stole and broke my heart. So very beautiful. She reminds me of a figure at a cemetery in Waterbury that is so full of pathos and passion I want to cry out just looking at her.
ReplyDeleteamen
ReplyDeleteAnd this post gave me goosebumps. You captured the emotion perfectly!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! This would be a great post for Mother's Day.
ReplyDeleteThe contrast of the drips on her arm in the last B&W is simply amazing. Beautiful...
