Brown Pelicans

I Wanna

Do you see what I see? At first I thought it was a snake, but it wasn't.

He was in the same tree as the Pelican, just a little further down.

He sat so still, if he hadn't moved I might have missed him.

I loved watching him eat!

I saw several Iguanas while in the Keys. One ran in front of our car, causing us to laugh - not something we're used to saying, "Watch out for the Iguana!" lol

I think he was trying to get closer so we could chat.

Or maybe, he wanted to eat me!

I think he made the Pelican nervous.

Brown Pelicans

I don't see many Pelicans in Wisconsin, but I had a lot of fun watching them in Florida! I had never seen one in a tree. Amazing!

The fishermen would share things with them. I bet they could eat a whole pizza in one gulp!

He looks like he's smiling. :0)

We camped in the Keys and these guys were at our campground. So I had plenty of time to watch them.

Brown Pelicans and Black Vultures

As we went to find a campsite in Flamingo (Everglades National Park) a ranger told us about the crocodile that had been on the opposite bank and we went to look for him. We never did see a Florida crocodile, just lots of alligators. But we found some pelicans. The fellow above is a juvenile Brown Pelican.

I think he's pretending to be a statue.

I find it funny that the adult Brown Pelicans aren't really brown.

We had a little bit of time to look around before dark. Haden found this spider.

I'm pretty sure this isn't blood in the water, such a large area was this color we're thinking there's some mineral or something making the water red. Very odd.

Before leaving the park the next morning we stopped to walk a trail and take some bird photos. We were surprised to see signs warning about black vultures attacking/damaging vehicles. Near one of the signs was this vulture strung up, I assume as a warning to other vultures.

I don't think it works, lol.

I don't find them near as creepy as the turkey vultures we have at home.

Pelican Island

Floating along Green Bay.

We passed an island full of Pelicans!

I think they were having a party!

Too bad some had to miss the party while pulling babysitting duty.  I had never seen a baby pelican before.

Everybody else was dancing and having a good time.

Seagulls were invited too - hmmm, I wonder what a pelican seagull would look like.

And a Commorant showed up for the ball!
