Pelican Island

We passed an island full of Pelicans!

I think they were having a party!

Too bad some had to miss the party while pulling babysitting duty.  I had never seen a baby pelican before.

Everybody else was dancing and having a good time.

Seagulls were invited too - hmmm, I wonder what a pelican seagull would look like.

    This started to sound like a Jimmy Buffett song! I admire the cormorant for showing up. What a stylish gate-crasher. And the seagull seems a bit shy, so unlike himself....

    We get white pelicans on the Yakima River from about Mrch to sometime in September. I have never been able to get quite so close to them, though--even with my zoom.

    They are beautiful! We have lots of pelicans here but only the brown ones. Those white ones are very impressive.
