Remember my parent's quail from this summer? Well they've gotten rid of many of them but they still have some left.
While we were visiting they laid a couple of eggs. Fresh eggs - it'd take several of them to equal one chicken egg.
That's a teaspoon!
Dennis managed to crack one open, the membrane was very thick and hard to puncture.
He poured it into the teaspoon.
Mom cracked open the other one. It was very difficult as well.
I had fun snapping while they got gooey, lol.
Great series - from the birds to the egg cracked open. They are little eggs!
ReplyDeleteIt is said that quail egg has very high cholesterol but I just love the taste of it. :)
ReplyDeleteWOW, I love that first shot of the Quail!
ReplyDeleteSoooooooo little egss !!!
ReplyDeleteThose birds are so funny
so little and the color is special :-)
Orange look !!
Excellent macros Lisa!
ReplyDeleteGlad your parents didn't mind the gooey part. :)
I really like your focus on the one quail's head.
Very cool Lisa! All of your bird photos this week are so beautiful, they almost don't look real! You are such an awesome photographer!

ReplyDeleteKiki~
PS: one thing I love..is everytime I visit here.. I never know what to expect to see..such a refreshing experience!
Ok, I have to ask, what did you do with the gooy stuff? Did you eat it? I'm at my Mom's house and we both just commented on your pictures and realized we'd never tried quail eggs before.
ReplyDeleteEgg yoke is quite big as compared to the egg white.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos!
ReplyDeleteSo sweet! (the birds, not the eggs - LOL)
ReplyDeleteOh, my gosh! Those eggs are so tiny. I remember reading some where that quail eggs were considered a genteel breakfast for Victorian children. I wonder how many were considered the right amount?
ReplyDeleteLove the photo of the quails by the way.
Your photos are so crisp and colorful. Did your family eat the eggs?
ReplyDeleteso cool. i love when you share nature as seen through your eyes.
ReplyDeleteI love quails eggs, I often use them in a little appetizer!
ReplyDeleteOH my gosh...look at that little tiny egg! So cute! The color in your photo are fantastic!
ReplyDeleteSo my question is.....did you eat them? I have had quail but not quail eggs. I'm wondering if they taste similair to chicken eggs.
ReplyDeleteFascinating series of photos ... I've never looked so closely at quail eggs and am delighted that you shared. I take it from reading comments from your visitors that some folks eat these as a delicacy. Live & learn ;-)
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings,
Do people eat quail eggs ? ( I see the question above as well)
ReplyDeleteand how do you know which ones are the edibles (or not) and which ones are the babies?
