The little finch egg didn't hatch, we assume it had something to do with the tiny hole in it.





I think it would take a lot of them to get full.

Rainy Day

Everybody needs a little help sometime.  Although, why the female house finch needs the male to bring her food, when she built her nest in a bird feeder, beats me.  Day 5 and she has laid 4 eggs so far.

Bottoms up!

Each round of testing brings huge agitation.  I fret and worry and am unbearable to live with in the days prior to the tests, and if there's a waiting time for results I'm just as bad.  However, the test I have tomorrow ~ the dreaded colonoscopy ~ gives results right away.   That doesn't stop me from being extremely jittery, hyper, moody, unable to think, easy to tears and somewhat cranky today though.  Bottoms up!

As a bonus I wanted to share that the finch laid another egg. From the research I did it appears that she'll be laying one a day until she has 4-6 eggs, they will incubate about 14 days and leave the nest a couple of weeks after that. Very cool!

Life affirming

I am SO excited! A little House Finch couple have decided to start a family in the bird feeder hanging on my bed room window. They built their nest in one day! Wow!  This morning I woke up to her happy song and when I had the opportunity to peek through the window I discovered one egg!  I think she's one smart bird to put her babies so close to food.  What can be more life affirming than watching new life in nature?  This will be fun!

Little Quail Eggs

Remember my parent's quail from this summer?  Well they've gotten rid of many of them but they still have some left.

While we were visiting they laid a couple of eggs.  Fresh eggs - it'd take several of them to equal one chicken egg.

That's a teaspoon!

Dennis managed to crack one open, the membrane was very thick and hard to puncture.

He poured it into the teaspoon.

Mom cracked open the other one.  It was very difficult as well.

I had fun snapping while they got gooey, lol.
