Do they really?

We went for a walk, pausing for some photos, and this wispy grass struck my fancy! We wandered off the trail a bit, following a deer path, which I think also was a path fishermen use - a path leading to the river, next to a bridge, then I looked at the side of the bridge. . .

And I thought that ants were a rather odd thing for graffiti artists to splash.

Blue ants, marching, and apparently they're calling a message. Yet I'm not sure why. . .

So, IF you decided to take some paint and graffiti a wall or train car or whatever, what would you share with the world?

  1. Some people have only one thing on their minds....
IF I were to paint graffiti I would leave a meaningful message, that would make you think.

  2. The grass and the graffiti are great. I love the blue ants. The message is indeed a bit odd though ;)

  3. Obviously put there by a man ;0) Um, what would I share? The only thing I know how to draw is a smiley face. It would have to be that!

  4. I would never use paint...maybe something I found in nature that would leave my mark and then disappear. I would write "Be Happy!"

  6. No antsy graffiti for me, no. I hate how people feel the need to spoil walls and vehicles and whatever with superficial messages. We can hardly catalogue this as "art"; can we?

  7. Ants wouldn't ever occur to me but I wouldn't do that anyway, cool shots though..

  8. I would paint jumping dolphins because they always make me smile and if I have to look at graffiti I at least want it to make me smile.

Speaking of ants... I met a guy one time that had a line of tattoed ants coming out of his belly button, going around his side and then down into his crack. I would never have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes.

  9. Ants don't seem like an odd subject to me really. "Banksy", arguably the most famous tag artist in the world, does a lot of rats. He also does some phenomenal people.

As for its validity as art, I think if you look at some of the work there's no other word for it. Some of it would rival anything you'd see in the MOMA. That's a debate that will rage for all time I imagine. Personally, if I owned a commercial space, I'd open it up for murals -- as long as they didn't involve gang tags or hate speech. But that's just me.

  10. Wow, I will never look at an ant the same again. LOL Was it a male ant that quoted this?

Nice find. I have walked through a lot of woods and haven't found anything as interesting as this.

  11. I don't get the message either, but the blue ants are kind of neat. Who knows what goes on in some people's minds?

  12. too funny--I don't think I'd ever be brave enough to paint graffitti! I've been brain washed to believe it is vandalism and not art.

  13. 42, I mean that is the meaning of life the universe and everything isn't it? LOL
I'd pass on the ants though. Great shots, it's always interesting to see what people put up for grafetti.

  14. In Singapore, anyone caught doing graffiti in any public space will be liable for a fine of a few thousand dollars! It's considered as vandalism , the fine acts as deterrent.

  15. I would draw a squiggle or a flower. I actually like the ants, just not the words. It looks like they crossed it out and put sex over the scribble out. Go figure. Nice photos thought.

  16. I love it! LOL! I've been taking pictures of graffiti for a long time now. Just the 'good' stuff, that strikes my fancy, but I have a little collection. Some is quite colourful and inventive, but I've never seen anything to rival that!

  17. Oh, those randy ants. I'll bet that graffiti writer was trying to shock her mother! At this stage my life, I'd write, "Be kind to the universe." Even if it took me a while.

  18. Well, I've always wondered what ants say, now I know! LOL!
