Ephraim Barn

DSCF2771

It's funny, for all our times traveling to Door County I had never noticed this barn until this winter. I made Dennis turn around, we parked, and walked out.

The ice on the bay was really cool!

There were names painted all over the barn! I was full of questions. Why? Was this allowed?

The barn is on the National Register of Historic Places - and it's ok to paint on it?!

So, yeah, painting on the barn is allowed.  Anderson Warehouse Graffiti - Historically, visiting boaters have "signed" the warehouse walls with their boat's name and the year they docked here.

Sorry I'm overloading you on photos, but there was so much to see upon the walls and all around.

If you were to sign the wall, what would you paint?

Rough-legged Hawk

IMG_6273

We see hawks quite often, but this time we were able to pause and I could snap a few shots. Dennis drove slowly by him as I shot out the window just praying for something to come out.

IMG_6281

He kept his eyes on me but I was sad the branches were in the way.

IMG_6283

However, we have learned, do not stop. If you stop the car to shoot the shots. . .

Blue Ice

IMG_6336

The ice is blue and shoving its way up to the shore. Cracking and pushing and piling.

Ice on the Pier

IMG_6401

I was so intrigued by the way the ice formed around this pier!

This is the ice on top of the pier - amazingly formed!

Who would have thought the wind could whip the snow into a pile straight up a sign - cool!

IMG_6428

Along the shore, the wind has made little formations that make me think of volcanoes or homes for some sort of sea dweller.  These were taken up in Door County, on Lake Michigan.

frozen

IMG_6345

When faced with a shocking diagnosis we often walk around numb for a some time, it's important to break through and reach the emotions below.

Had an opportunity to run up to Door County and check out Lake Michigan.  North side of the pier.

The other side of the pier.

This one reminded me of a shark lurking below.

Seriously?

I was reminded, by the swiftly painted sunset, to not take life too cirrusly.

the Porcupine

lc2738

You will never believe where we found this porcupine! In a cemetery! See, I can find all sorts of things there. He was walking across the grounds when Dennis spotted him. By the time I got back from grabbing the camera out of the car he was going into the brush.

lc2739

He made some little growl/grunt noises at me then started climbing the tree.

lc2740

He was very interesting to watch climb - I'd never seen one this close in the wild before.

lc2741

He's a very slow climber. Occasionally he would pause and peek around the tree at me, then decide to keep climbing. Check out those claws! See the scratches on the tree?

lc2742

This is how he climbed, stretching all the way out. . .

lc2743

Then bringing the back feet up before moving the front feet again.

lc2744

From the marks on the tree I think he's climbed this one before.

lc2745

I was glad he was slow.

lc2746

At this point, he was pretty high above me, with brush between us too, so I think he felt safe.

lc2747

That's where we left him.
