Do you prefer Double-Crested Cormorant or Anhinga?

The Enchanting Snakebird

I hope you're not tired of the Anhinga because I was really enamored by them! They're also referred to as the Snakebird because of their habit of only having the head above water while fishing.

I loved watching them sun, so beautiful all spread out like that!

I love their little puffy heads!

And their modest splash of color amongst the black and white.

Truly incredible birds!

Looking Up

The Everglades had so much to see that my head was constantly turning this way and that! If I looked up I could see awesome plants!

Or coconuts waiting to bombard my head!

Or an Anhinga reading to divebomb me.

Or I could play peek-a-boo with an Ibis.

The more I looked, the more I saw.

Watch out!

Drying off

I had never heard of, or seen, this bird before and had to look it up. It's really a large bird.

My bird book says that the Anhinga is about 35" with close to a four foot wingspan.

The males and females look a lot alike, but if I'm reading my book correctly this is a female. The buff brown neck and breast are on the females.  The one I shared last week was the male, black head and neck.

Anhinga, Cormorant and a fishie

I had never seen an Anhinga before our trip to Florida. I was in awe of these birds!

But I still love the Double-Crested Cormorants too.

But I had never watched them dive, and I found it very fun to watch! They stay down for a long time!

Amazing!!

Then he's back up!

I don't think he could eat this fish, lol.

And back up.
