Birds in the hood
I'm ever amazed at the variety of birds right in my neighborhood. It makes me wonder if they've always been there and I just didn't notice.
I can't tell you what birds shared my yard in Missouri, or in Texas, but I can tell you who comes through in Wisconsin. Maybe I never had a chance to look up while raising the kids and I only now have the opportunity to look around.
{Oh sorry guys that I neglected to tell you the first photo is Blue Heron and the second a Northern Flicker. As Michelle mentioned, this Flicker is the male, I have shown the female before, over here.}

Blue & Green Herons
While we were at the Sandhill Wildlife Refuge we did not manage to see any Sandhill Cranes, but we saw a Great Blue Heron.
Would you believe that this was only the second time I have ever seen a Green Heron?
And these are the best photos I could manage? Stupid bird kept moving away from me. *pouting* Go ahead, show me your awesome Green Herons, I promise I won't cry.
