Tern Around
I think this is a Tern, in my little book I thought it looked like the Least Tern, but the book shows it being in Florida in the summer (not winter) and that it's endangered - so I really am not sure. I love its little scissortail, lol.
It's a petite little thing, whatever it is.
Seems I keep using the gulls for a size comparison, but there were a lot of gulls everywhere so they make convenient rulers. I love shorebirds!

Looks like a least tern in my Florida Field Guide Book and they are considered a threatened species because of competition with humans for recreation and development space. Maybe his timing is off by a couple of weeks because they are usually found from April through September in FL.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
Really nice photos!
ReplyDeleteFabulous photos, Lisa. I'm not a birder, so I leave the ID stuff to others.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, and fantastic photos, Lisa! I love all of them, but the last one has to be my favorite..
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots of the shorebirds. The Tern is a pretty bird.
ReplyDeleteVery nice pics!
ReplyDeleteLove the last one.
Darryl and Ruth : )
These are all beautiful photos. Judging by the eye-band, that little tern could possibly be a juvenile Forster's, who do winter in Florida. It's difficult to judge by the size of the gulls not being quite sure exactly what kind of gulls those are. It certainly looks tiny in comparison!! That last shot is a winner!! ~ks
ReplyDeleteInteresting photos! They look like or Canadian Sea Gulls, but not as dirty.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos, always nice to see something I would not find in Iowa.
ReplyDeleteI can hear them. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteI love shorebirds too - especially as they bob along and run - leaving little tracks in the wet sand.
ReplyDeleteFantastic shots. And the last one is my favourite.
ReplyDeletethat scissor tail just kills me - So cute! Really cool shots!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful captures!
ReplyDeletePlease take a peek of my sister's PETS
That's a beautiful shot of the bird in flight!
ReplyDeleteI love sea birds...nice captures, especially of the one in flight.
ReplyDeleteI hope you find out soon -- did my bird book qualifications help you with the ID?
ReplyDeleteit is very pretty
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying my 'catch up' visit today and had to stop here to comment on that first photo ... simply amazing capture! Loved seeing your Florida travel pictures too ... and that 'roll me over' truck is too funny!
ReplyDeleteHugs and blessings,
I absolutely love that first shot. The sharp points at all four corners with the curves in between are fabulous.
