Alive. They dry up and lose all/most of their spines pretty quickly when dead. AAAAAANNNNNNDDDDD... I know because once I thought one was dead, so I took it for my collection, and it wasn't. But it obviously died, and it smelled horrendous. I felt horrible, but the stench was worse than how bad I felt for killing it.
I'd say alive--they look moist
ReplyDeleteThey are so pretty! (I know, I'm weird)
ReplyDeleteGreat finds! I have always seen them dead and dried.
