Every April we go to Iverson Park to seek out our friend, the Barred Owl - this year we didn’t make it until May, but we weren’t disappointed.
Not only were we blessed to see the Barred Owl (he wasn't in the mood to pose and flew off), but we also saw this young Great Horned Owl!
He stayed and posed for us for a while.
He’s just a doll!
As he and I were checking each other out. . .
A Bald Eagle flew over.
Then I told him farewell.
I love these. The first pic really shows the fabled wise old owl with his sombre expression. I sometimes come across owls sitting in the road that I live on when I'm driving at night. At first sight you would think that it is a small dog in the middle of the road and then two massive wings rise up and the owl soars off. An amazing sight. Living on the edge of a conservancy does yield some amazing sights but I have also lost some beloved pets to the 'wilderness'. Our conservancies which are really oases of nature in the midst of development are under constant threat of new development of matchbox 'low cost' housing although thank goodness the faltering economy seems to have halted this for the moment.
ReplyDeleteOMG! OMG! OMG! That first shot is killing me! I drew that owl last year and by the life of me could not find it anywhere! My girls were pointing out "how to draw an owl, mum!" but for some reason that one came out of my hands! I thought perhaps I was drawing a baby owl? But none of the pictures we found matched it! Now yours is pretty much the same! See I AM NOT CRAZY! LOL! It does exist!!!!! (Well, maybe a little, shhhhhh, don't tell on me! hehe!) Now, why the hell I drew it, is another question all together? But hey! I'm not askin' okay! The dreaming is enough for weirdo's like me to deal with right now!
ReplyDeleteSo owls aside, I have still been following your blog although I do not comment all the time, my life is so busy these days I am wondering if I am keeping up myself? You are looking good girl! Gorgeous pictures! I so love it when you post pic's of yourself! You are beautiful! (OH and I love the animal pic's and the flowers and the grandbubs! Oh okay, I love all your pictures! LOL) Now today I learned something new! The camera man stuck a filter on my camera LOL, he said I totally needed it as I am TOO rough with my darling camera! Hey! I was not arguing at all. I paid up no problems! And how lovely my new shots are coming out! Too bad I did not go the day before I went to the zoo hey? Could have got the best shot of a baby chimp through the dirty old glass! I will blog it anyway but its pretty crap!
Okay I will shut up now! Thats a bit of a long comment (even for me) but I so miss our old Fun Monday crowd! (Maybe we should have like a Fun Monday re-union post day?) Anyways, big hugs and smoochies, from one Lisa to another xxoooxxxoxoxo Mwah mwah mwah!)
I agree...terrific shots! And yes, that first guy does look like THE owl :-)
ReplyDeleteI love these pictures. I've never been graced with seeing one in nature but have seen them at the zoo. I'm surprised you were able to capture these guys in daylight aren't they nocturnal creatures? Still, they're precious. I think that horned owl looks more like a stuffed animal sitting on that branch. And that eagle passing by at the right time, wow. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteVery nice, Lisa. What a beautiful creature. Very authentic and stirring photos.
ReplyDeleteOh my Gosh! How cute is he? I have never seen an owl in the wild and I sure hope I do one day!
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool Lisa! And right here in Iverson park that I pass every single day! It is amazing what we find when we take the time and I am so glad that you did! Just lovely those birds...and the eagle...what a sight! Enjoy the day! Erin
ReplyDeleteHe appears to be so fluffy! Would love to see just ONE owl in the wild (not in a cage). But I would be so excited I probably forget I had my camera in my hand. :(
ReplyDeleteWonderful shots, Lucky you. I never see any birds like this close enough to get shots of.
ReplyDeleteOh, these are wonderful!
ReplyDeletelooks like you had a nice visit.
ReplyDeleteYou really have a great deal of skill (and more than a little luck I think) with the bird shots. I've never even seen a bald eagle in the wild, much less photographed one.
ReplyDeleteAwesome!
Oh, I like these. These are great. There's no shortage of wonderful in this post.
ReplyDeleteI've not thought too much about owls but these are great! They are kind of funny looking but cute.
ReplyDeleteWoW...simply beautifully captured shots....you have captured them so well!
ReplyDeleteWonderful, Lisa, I love the first shot, simply fab.
ReplyDeleteI am SO impressed! Your pics are beautiful. You really captured him through your lense. We've never seen another one after stalking that one last winter. I would love to have one live in my yard.
ReplyDeleteSimply beautiful. I especially like the first picture.
ReplyDeleteThat first one is my favorite. Owls kind of creep me out, LOL!
ReplyDeleteFantastic park and fantastic photos. I've only seen owls and eagles a handful of times. They're such neat birds.
ReplyDeleteI am with Mojo, you are one talented chick with so many fabulous captures! The bald eagle is quite fabulous but I love that baby owl too. So fluffy. :)
