a little bee that goes buzz

072310

I strive to be a brightly emerging presence, attracting all the good in life towards me. Sometimes, the best way to get out of a funk is to put on the effervescent attitude. I have to be thankful that I'm currently in remission and rejoice in all the moments of living, even the rainy ones!  With any luck I'll pass my enthusiasm for life on to at least one person, and they will pass it on to at least one more, and so on, and so on. . .

About the title: Just a little diddy I sing to the grandson, spent some time singing it this week (hadn't for quite some time) so guess it's fresh in my mind

About the photo: A break in the rain, a moment of sunshine, several bright orange flowers opened, me walking by with the macro on the camera and suddenly a bee was there, I got off one shot, the second shot the bee is gone, lol.

Pixel and friends

IMG_9527

April of 2009 I had a contest to name our resident flying squirrel and she ended up with the name Pixel. She's a darling, you can see photos of her on that post.  Well Pixel and her babies have been very busy.  Here we are a little over a year later and every night I feed my fliers and I have a count of at least 6 coming to visit.

You can set your clock by them. They come at 9:15 every night, it's so fun watching them fly in! I was surprised when we had a cook out that lasted until about 11pm and they still came. People were able to get within a few feet of them and watch them.

While my parents visited we sat out every night to watch them. Over time we have worked up to being able to use a flash on them. We replaced our yellow bug bulb with a white one. Later we brought out a big shop light, like a flood light and still they came. And now we can put the flash on the camera and freeze them in action.

Now that we've got a few decent shots I'm back to just feeding and watching them. Every night I feed them seeds and some sort of fruit. I've found that they do not like cantaloupe. lol  They are the busiest in the yard right at dusk, but they are still here throughout the night.  I've been out as late as 1am and seen/heard them.  Come on over, they're more fun to watch than tv.

Nevermore

072210

And the raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting
On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door;
And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming,
And the lamp-light o'er him streaming throws his shadow on the floor;
And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor
Shall be lifted - nevermore!

What's been keeping us so busy lately

image

We brought this 1979 Fiat 2000 Spider home to fix up and play with.

Currently it looks like this ... well she used to be cute. She will be even better when done.

BTW: Fiat 500 will be coming to the US this December, I would really like to see Qubo come over though.

Cancer is a thief. It steals everything in it's path and more than you would ever realize looking in from the outside. The one thing it can't steal is the sky.  It can't steal my joy in the world around me, I won't let it!

the bird or the bug?

072010

Today I felt like the bird more than the bug. Not insignificant, but in charge!

It's funny I haven't seen any nuthatches around for a while. Then this guy shows up, snags a bug (I didn't know they were carnivores) and hopped from tree to tree. Here he's tucking the bug in a crevice to eat it. It was pretty amazing to watch.

A little later he hopped to a tree with some nice backlighting. Spiderweb straight out from his beak. And I think the blobby tree kinda looks like a sideways heart, I never noticed that before now.

btw -all of these were taken with my 100-400mm lens while talking on my cell phone (to my mommy, lol).  You try holding that lens and the phone.
